What started as an obvious soft-ball pitched for the cheap seats is quickly heating up as each successive wave of suckers posts up with heartfeld vitriol, random autobiographical nonsense (empathy play? get real, this is the internet), dogma, regurgitated self-help, and other null-content nonesense. Well played, sir. And to those folks that managed to dredge up enough indignation to post a heated response: PWNED.

Likewise Leech, you know nothing about me. First of all, I am not a hippie. Second, I'm sure we're all misguided, you included. Third, I'm not unemployed and I wouldn't say I'm a liberal. Good for you for volunteering although I have to admit I'm surprised. Interesting you're liberal leaning... so why are you attacking me for being somethings you are? That doesn't really make sense. However, I do find it funny that you're attacking me for designing rock climbing t-shirts and being part of the Peace Corps. I can think of less worthwhile persuits. Anyway, my point in the beginning was, your original post was pointless. Why are we even talking about "Why Women, or Men for that matter, Climb?" It doesn't matter in the least, but by perpetuating the stereotypes you're just making this site an uncomfortable place to be. This is the first forum board I've read and I'm already put off. You seem like you're just trying to stir up shit that doesn't need to be stirred. Don't attack me for responding to something you wanted responded to. Please don't reply to this. I'm not interested in anything else you have to say and I won't read it. I'm not interested in the expansion of an already inaccurate name calling parade.

No doubt they will end up in the same circle of hell as those who attempted suicide but did not succeed. You climbers need to stop insanely risking your life and take up a more tame, civilized passtime, like golf or bowling. This applies equally to males and females.

clee03m wrote: I know at least one guy who works in the medical field that volunteers in medical missions to Africa at least once a year, but says that poor people should die of hunger because that is part of natural selection. I’m glad you’re still with us clee03m. I know this is a bit of a thread drift, but it’s a worthwhile topic to pursue. As harsh as it may sound to you, your medical friend has a healthy perspective and makes a valid point. Those of us who work in the “helping professions” generally develop a realistic, practical view of life that may seem callous to others. Either that or we remain idealists who quickly burn out and move on to other fields. We do what we can to improve the conditions of humanity, while acknowledging that hunger, poverty, pain, suffering, crime, and victimization are inevitable in our world. These things will never go away, no matter how hard we work at it. It’s easy to pretend that isn’t the case if you’re doing office work every day. But work the front lines for a few years and face these issues daily – you’ll see how your perspective changes. Ultimately, we’re all just animals fighting to survive. Some are predators, some are prey, some are weak who end up being culled, and some carry on and propagate the species. As for the subject of medical outreach and Peace Corps missions to Africa… The best thing they could do is focus on educating about and distributing birth control en masse. Reproduction in the face of famine and poverty perpetuates a disaster with no end.
