My partner and I have about a 100lb difference between us and I totally vote for anchoring. Even belaying him is quite a workout for me cos I gotta use force to control the friction when I let him down. Recently he got me a ATC-sport from black diamond and it's awesome. It increases the friction and it's so much safer.

If she's going to take a long ride up, you might want to get her into a helmet (assuming you guys don't wear one alreadyWink).

It doesn't happen often but I heard word around Sand Rock (AL) that a gentleman died by getting yanked up and violently striking his head on the rock. I haven't searched to verify it because 1) it seems like a plausible scenario regardless, 2) a helmet protects against the potential for falling rock, and 3) it may not look cool, but with a little one needing care there's no reason not to protect your noggin.

This is the ladies' room. That sentence should read, "If you are going to take a long ride up, you might want to wear a helmet." Trust me when I say, it seems to me here that no one needs to get us into a helmet or anything else for that matter. We are perfectly capable of making that decision ourselves.

If she felt the same way you do, she would be asking the question that started this thread... not her husband...

also stated in the original thread is that they are both beginners, it's possible that neither person recognizes the importance of helmets. Since he asked the question, it is appropriate to tell him to take appropriate action to remedy a deficiency. Perhaps I could have stated that he should suggest to her to wear a helmet but I didn't...I didn't realize people look for such minor things to be offended about. Tongue

try to be a little less feminazi about simple statements. Wink

I understand what clee was saying. I live in the South, and while I'm an educated intelligent person, the way we talk down here is not always viewed as the most precise way to address things. If the guys wife had asked the same question [ie she weighs a lot and lifts him off the ground] I would have said the exact same comment in reverse: "get him into a helmet."

Now the interesting thing is that if the situation would have been reversed and I would have said get him into a helmet, I doubt any dudes would have been offended by that. I guess some people are just looking for reasons to claim being a victim of the world, or hell (since the cussing barrier has been broken) some people are just looking for reasons to bitch or be offended. If, instead of interpretting what I said in the most negative possible way, you read it for what it was it's possible that we'd all be getting along right now. Tongue

Now somthing that I don't get: I don't get the correlation to my being perceived as being asshole to whether or not I do have male genatalia. It would have made sense insert "wife-beater wearing" or "woman hating" but to reference the assumed lack of a phallic appendage doesn't make any logical sense. Please enlighten me on that one ok? Wink

At the end of it all I was answering a question with an important point: wear a helmet if you're getting yanked up, and no I don't care if I offended anyone with the way I said it. I don't buy into this insanely popular politically-correct BS.

if you had truly meant nothing by the "get her a helmet" comment, you would simply have clarified when called out, and not gone around calling people femnazis. now, i grew up in the south, too, went to college there and everything, and i realize it's a term that gets thrown around, but it is SERIOUSLY offensive, for a variety of reasons that should get their own thread if we're going to discuss it. i don't personally see the offense in your original phrase about helmets, and i think the objection was meant more as a cheeky comment than anything else, "hey this is the ladies room, best watch yo'se'f."

but as far as the dickless comment, i am saying that i find your need to retort by firing off "femnazi" as evidence of a complete lack of masculinity, or at the very least a poor security in what you do have.

femnazi is a term used by people (including sometimes women) who are upset by their norms being threatened. sometimes used only to denote the brand of feminism summed up by "all men should be kept in cages for breeding purposes only," but much more often used by insecure jerks to equate all brands of feminism with each other from equal work equal pay to keep men in cages. by inflating all feminism to an extremist level, a straw (wo)man is created that can (and by jebus, should) be torn down.

lack of masculinity= dickless, being a jerk= asshole.

Let see...

you call me a feminazi, claim to be an educated intelligent person, use being from the South as an excuse (BTW I'm from GA and call the BS), tell me I am just looking for reasons to claim being a victim of the world or just looking for reasons to bitch or be offended, hide your sexism behind the mask of hating "political correctness," and then say the we'd all be getting along now if I would just read it for what it really was.

Right.

I realize the distinct possiblity that I am wasting my time, but let me give you a little example to see why you don't appear exactly educated or intelligent.

A white lady tightly clutches her purse in response to seeing an African American man. When called on it, calls him an n word, explain that she is eduated and intelligent, tells him he is just looking for reasons to claim being a victim of the world or just looking for reasons to bitch or be offended, explain how much she hates the political correctness BS, says she would have clutched her purse just as tightly if she had seen a white man, then finish off by saying that we'd all be getting along now if he would just read it for what it really was.

If you find yourself nodding along with the last paragraph thinking, yeah, she is totally right, then I believe we might not have a whole lot of common ground.

... Oh my god. Never in my short life have I ever seen anyone blow up about something so small.

I am going to assume that clausti and clee03m are joking otherwise I may begin to think less of them.

i am absolutely not joking. as I stated before I took no offense to the original helmet comment, but I take very great offense at the term femnazi. It is unacceptable hate language.
