-terrible video productions -way inflamed ego -idol worship -"the scene" the dude films climbers who are not world cup potential and makes them seem wayyyy better than they are. He himself will never make the grade because of his over emphasized sharma scream. leave the filming to big up and sender and stick to lusting over katie brown.

It's cool to see university professors, waitresses, and construction workers pulling 11 and 12 trad when they have time off from their already busy schedules. As far as I'm concerned those are the top climbers of the world. Not to downplay Sharma too much, the kid has an amazing ability to hang from stuff I'll never get on. But he's by no means a hero of mine.

I agree with you, protoslay. However, Peter Mortimer is just as clique-ish, hero-knob-bobbing, and bound-to-the-scene as Fryburger. The whole attitude that climbing revolves around Boulder is just lame. Well, Boulder in general is lame.

protoslay wrote: -"the scene" if you're referring to the boulderCO-as-the-center-of-the-universe or the bouldercentric theory then you're right. but realize that every climbing movie guy (I'm not sure if we can call them directors) - Lowell, Call, Mortimer, Udo - all began by drawing from a local pool of talent. so that's a pretty natural starting point. the test is whether or not he grows out of it.
protoslay wrote: the dude films climbers who are not world cup potential and makes them seem wayyyy better than they are. He himself will never make the grade because of his over emphasized sharma scream. I agree that some of his films aren't homeruns, they drag or he seems way too into production gags like filters or transitions. But that said, one of the refreshing things about him is his willingness to use guys that you'd never hear of otherwise. I thought his South Africa thing was crap but his short about squirrels and the one with the guy throwing rocks off the water tank were super cool (as well as the one with the art student climbing the highballs). Protosally, I'm assuming you're a boulderite, why aren't you in his movies? Is this why the anger brews?

who says climbing videos can only have top climbers in them? is there a rule book? as long as people are having fun climbing and climbing their hardest and u get hyped to climb when u watch the video, it qualifies as a good video in my part. you need to pull the dick out of your ass and go climbing instead of trashing climbers on blogs:)

All rock climbing is is to go from the bottom of a rock to the top. Just climb dude and stop trashing others, no matter how good or bad you think they are. We're not basketball players for goodness sakes

Boulder doesn't really have much to offer. I'm not sure why people keep talking it up. There are SERIOUSLY way too many climbers here. That being said, it's really nice to not have to drive 3 hours to the crag.

The guy really just needs to get out from in front of the camera and find a business partner with vision. He has a good deal of technical skills at his disposal but they don't always result in a polished product. I am not the only person who wishes that he would have found the funding to make the movie he wanted instead of going to Rocklands. The pool of talent he was pulling from would have made it one the better climbing movies of late.

the only chuck fryburger film ive seen is specimen and i thought the movie as a whole was pretty weak. the actual climbing parts that were in it were good but otherwise there was too much talking and not enough climbing at least for me there werent more than 10-15 boulder problems throughout the whole movie.

Chuck Fryberger is an extremely talented climber. Watch Specimen - He puts a ton of time developing a story and keeping it focused, all the while leaving all of his ascents (which are tougher than the ones the protagonist is taking on and on par with the "pro boulderers" he learns from) in the Extras scenes. I would guess that he climbs in maybe one out of 20 of his scenes, in all he has done. As a film major, his composition, lighting and sound development are the best I have seen in the [climbing film] industry. Chuck's professional style is a breath of fresh air in the garage edited bouldering video world.
