So I came across an interesting realization yesterday. It's that I fucking hate Yosemite. I wasn't there when I realized this. I was in Indian Creek if you must know. Anyway, I had partnered up with someone who does a lot of climbing in the valley. He kept asking me about specific routes in the valley and he only got a "meh" out of me. While sitting down one evening staring into the sky, he hands me a yosemite big walls books and proclaims it to be "inspirational reading". I read a blurb about Lynn Hill and put the book down. We talk about Freeblast, I've done the route and don't have much to say. It was a fun morning I thought. He tells me I should project the Leaning Tower, I couldn't get interested, it's in the valley. This went on for some time, there wasn't much there to capture my imagination. I think I'd like to attempt Free Rider sometime and the Higbee free variation of the Regular Route on Half dome. That seems to be enough. It's kindof a small list for the professed epicenter of our little club. I couldn't get past the people, the heat, the rangers, being a 3rd class citizen, the dirt, the bears, and the green dragon. To me, a normally not negative person, the rock in no way makes up for the rest. I think he was actually pretty annoyed that this dear place to him wasn't anything more than a pain in the ass to me. There you have it. It's been nearly a year and a half since I've been to the valley and I'm still tired of it. So whats wrong with me? I feel like Muslim who's totally burned out Mecca. Or an English teacher who's bored with grammar. Please fix me, I'm broken.

I just left today and had a great time, but I can see that the rangers and bears and some aspects of the environment could be annoying. It was my first visit, though, so despite the negative parts of it, I'm still pretty psyched about the place. To each his own.

Isn't "Big Stone" supposed to be last thing I think before I fall asleep at night?

Hell, I'm an English teacher, and I'll be the first to admit grammar is painfully boring.

This might be a little off topic. I'm in a public book store and was just surprised at just how loud babies can cry. Little monsters.

Come up to the Eldred Valley in B.C. Lots of F.A.'s and walls taller than El Cap, plus no people. >Cam

Sounds more like you're a Christian who is tired of Mecca. To thine own self be true.

Maybe you should consider yourself lucky. I hate all that stuff you mentioned (add Camp 4 to the list) but the rock more then makes up for it so I continue to deal with the bullshit to climb there. Do you feel the same way about Tuolumne?

I'm doing my rotation through the newborn nursery now, and they are cute as anything...of course I get to hand them to the parents when they cry, who then are stuck with them for the next 18 years. Still want one someday...

Fuck the valley did you eat inside the car on the way to valley? did you have anything in the back seat that looked like a daypack? edit to add: this year, valley bears have been super active like never before they been attacking every house. few months ago, one bear broke in to a ranger house while he was out of town. bear stayed in his resident three days next to a refregrator while ranger's dog were fighting it. bear almost killed one dog but finally, they had to kill the bear.
