So far I have gotten a free pair of shoes(Evolv's, just came in the mail yesterday) and two , count 'em, two ropes from Sterling. I also got a free chalkbag, also from Evolv, and a Family One-Year Membership from the Mohonk Preserve(for 4, includes, climbing, hiking and cycling). I also got a pretty damned sweet offer, the details of which I have been asked not to blab all over the internet. ...and I boulder less than Zero. And I'm...not young. Nor am I a hottie. Haven't put up any classic routes, nor stepped foot into a comp. Volunteer with your local trail crew, offer to assist at bigger events, go to Adopt-a-Day and climbing organization events(where you, too, can win crash pads and backpacks and the like) and you don't have to ever worry about getting/keeping that sponsorship. Much less stressful....

The worst part is, there seems to be a sudden rush of them, constantly registering new accounts and asking stupid troll questions. As of this writing, six of the topics on the front page of RC.com are from folks who are probably trolls, all registered within the last two weeks. Three of those are from the same poster, who is either one of the most obnoxious idiot kids out there, or a really persistent troll, and the rest have registered in the last day or two. I understand, you folks are bored at work. I suggest, rather than entertaining yourself trolling rc.com, you spend some time reading the excellent "head trip" article on the front page, or learn to knit or something. This shit is getting ridiculous.

clausti wrote: in all seriousness, what you need to get sponsored is enter lots of competitions (preferably winning or placing), meet the vendors, volunteer at trail days, meet the sponsors/vendors, climb a lot outside, meet the reps, make friends at your outdoor store, meet the reps, Talk to the guys demoing gear anywhere you see them, ect. Be known, be good, be nice, be friendly, be someone they want to have represent them. There are LOTS and LOTS of people who climb extraordinarily well who have never been and will never be sponsored. And there are some people who don't climb as hard as you'd think you need, who are still sponsored. And that being said most sponsored climbers still work for a living. Lots guide, Lots do construction. One I know refinishes wood floors. Some run climbing gyms. Your first year sponsored is not going to get you any $$$ unless you are sharma, which you aren't. Your best bet to convince your parents to let you go on a road trip instead of college is be really really responsible, save up as much money as you can (no eating out no movies no lattes no dates) before you graduate, and, best case scenerio, get deferred admission to college. Enjoy your road trip, they're really fun. Thanks to clauseti and others who gave helpful advice. I hung out a little before posting and I noticed the negative types here but it's ok, when you're good people will always hate and doubt you. I believe I can do it, and I'm making steady progress. Is going from V7-V10 or 12 really that much harder than going from V1-V7? I mean technically it's harder sure, but I'm very fit and dedicated, and I try hard to avoid injuries and overtraining. To the dude that wanted to know if I'm good looking, lets just say I'm dating the best looking cheerleader at our school, but I want to be recognized for my talent, not my looks. I guess if they help its ok. That would be sweet to get paid $20000 to climb, but I don't need to live large with new cars and houses and stuff, I just want to make enough to travel the world and climb.

You definitely shouldnt be mountain biking if you take climbing seriously and want to get sponsored. you might never be able to boulder above the average limit if you dont give it 100% focus.

I'm near Albuquerque so it's too hot in the summer outside. My favorite type of climbing is to just wander the desert on cooler days and send whatever looks rad.

You can climb nine days a week if you just take the time and effort to invent a couple more days and a new calendar. Are you just too lazy to show up to you Hodsday and Baldrsday training sessions?

Should probably read: 'JT512 has made many noobs suffer with over 14k posts, containing mostly legitimate advice, but shrouded by sarcasm and assholerificness that other members have enjoyed and will miss on rc.noob.' Or maybe that should go on to wikipedia under JT512 where it will probably have a permanent notice saying 'This article may require cleanup to meet Wikipedia's quality, unbiased standards.'

Yeah...It can't be the limit if it's an average.... anyhoo, he was probably talking about the bouldering limit line.... coz outside you *have* to climb above the line to be noticed... inside you just get in trouble.

Supersitstart wrote: Hi all, I'm a pretty new climber but I'm progressing quickly. I sent V-1 my first time climbing, V-3 within a month, now 8 months later I'm at V-7. At this rate I will be at V10-11 in the next year, is that good enough to get sponsored, or should I wait until I get to V12 or so? I'm close to graduating, so I need some sponsors if I'm going to put off college to become a pro. Thanks! Don't listen to these posers. You'll be the one laughing when you've kept up the same rate and in 2 years you're sending V20-V22.

Help keep the troll rolling and insult him with some comment about having a shiny red sportscar being what's so "good looking" about him or something. Why are you guys so obsessed with trolls? Just because you can't send V2 doesn't mean you have to hate.
