So I moved to Firefox, which evidently gets like 8 mpg or something like that. Every time I watch any animation or go to a website with a lot of bells and whistles on Firefox, the fan starts whiring, and within five minutes the browser slows to the point of like a 5 second lag for every keystroke or mouse click. Not sure if this means that Russians have infiltrated teh Firefox or not, but this does not happen on Chrome.

So yeah, as soon as we've paid medical bills, paid for plane tix to jorb interviews, sold the condo, and gotten jobs, totally buying a new computer.

I do with that my old computer could act a bit more like my old truck, though, for the time being.

Are you running Tiger? Can't you just update your OS?

Naw, it's Leopard. 10.5.8. I had not considered updating the OS, and I'm not sure what type of OS my computer could move up to. I did that once before on an older computer, and it had its advantages, but it was still several hundred dollars.

Probably not worth it, since in this computer the optical drive is already broken, and due to a drop, some of the casing is even off-kilter. It's much cheaper just to bitch about it.

I always try to get certain people to leave the house early for climbing and skiing, but usually get vetoed.
We also don't have to drive more than an hour to be anywhere.
Last week I should have skied Tuesday, but I went Thursday and Sunday, and drove up to Idaho Springs on Monday...I just couldn't handle the idea of driving 70. This hour from the mountain thing sucks azz.
Boooooo

An hour to nice terrain...

CAMHAT! you would appreciate this:

I went to the gym the other day, and the gym owner says to me: what did you do, you broke A.! (the guy I do my hangbored stuff with)

I was like, what do you mean, i broke him?

And Chris says, well, A. walked in, and I asked him if he was bouldering today, and he said, oh, no, I just need to warm up a bit before the hangbored.

LOL!

Haha, that is awesome, you are slavedriving others besides Steve?

I have not gotten any folks at Kinetic to jump into the hangboredom with me yet. I think it's because I am not a female, though (SEXIZT!), who can bat her eyes, sweetly ask if a guy wants to train, and then BAM! bring down the cold cold hammer of ruthless Soviet toil on the hangboard.

You should be proud.

Yes, SEXIST!!!! Steve hasn't been to the gym in a while. I guess he has work stuff. And I definitely do NOT bat my eyes at A.

It was Coloradkid's fault. He did a few hangbored workouts with me before he went to Spain, lucky bastard, and he makes things look fun. So A decided that he wanted to try, and then he got bitten by the hangbored bug.

Yeah, Coloradkid does make everything look fun.

Do I knowez A.? Is it A. the Indian kid?

yep! and yep. Aand yep.

Racist! Let's not jump to conclusion about camhat's pron preferences.

I am, however, willing to consider the fact that camhead with his liberal arts education may not have known how to use an incognito mode...

And I don't want to jinx myself, but my laptop is aslo older than camhead's, and also not a mac, and also seems not to suffer from planned obsolescence just yet.

I am familiar with incognito/private browsing. I use it when I go to perezhilton, oprah.com, rockandice, or any other site that I'll be embarrassed about going to.

I'm not sure what it wrong, other than the porbelm comes from running Firefox and the encountering flash player stuff. Something about firefox thinking it needs to use all my RAM to view youtube videos, even 10 minutes after I've watched that video.

My old PC (circa 2005) used to hatez the firefox, and refused to play ewetube without going really slow and firing up the turboprop fans.
And then it stopped wanting to do anything. ten minutes to open up openoffice...

Recently I was outdoors and a friend could not finish the top of a 10d (just burned out), so I offered to finish the top (I'd only led a 5.7 at that point, but can climb 10+ on TR) as I was not worried about a ground fall being top roped almost the entire way. My wife had me on belay, and I didn't realize she put me on a gri-gri (she's been climbing longer than I too). When I went for the final move (about 5 feet above the last draw), she didn't give any slack (harder to do with a Gri-gri), she pulled me off the wall. Instead of falling 10 feet plus rope stretch, when she braked, the rope went over the handle release of the gri-gri and kept it open. By the time she realized this and fixed it, I fell nearly 30 feet (my first lead fall, ahh!). I didn't deck, but it certainly gave me quite the scare (her too).

Lesson learned for us: we leave the gri-gri at home and only use it for indoor climbing.

Your wife lied about what happened. What you described borders on the impossible. The much more likely scenario is she screwed up somehow, most likely by clamping down on the device with her hand in a moment of panic and kept it from locking up. She was afraid to tell you the truth, or possibly in the way that only women can, convinced herself whatever happened wasn't her fault and made up that scenario in her head.

(emphasis mine).

Have fun!

I prefer my hair long. For a couple of reasons... 1) I'm lazy and don't want to have to do it. 2) I think it looks better on me.

However, with my current jorb, I has to look professional and conservative. Therefore, right now, it's a bob cut just above my shoulders angled longer in front and I have bangs. All of which I don't like a whole lot.

I actually have a weke-end climbing report! Imagine that!

There was a climbing comp in Charleston this weekend. Yes, I know, it is ridiculous to drive 4 hours to a comp, but in this case it was a combination of wanting to check out that gym, and hanging out with friends afterwards, and the fact that there was no good climbing to be had anywhere within a day's drive, anyway...

Surprisingly, Heffe wanted to go, and actually brought it up. I was already psyched to go, so when he signed on, it was awesome. A in all, 5 of us went from Cle. Heffe and I, John, Becca and Sarah.

The bouldering gym they built there is REALLY cool. As in, I can't really think of any additions or improvements to the wall design/layout that would make it better. We are not talking the Spot, or any of those big-name places, but for a small co-op gym I have never seen anything that good. Big variety in a small place, very little unused space, and great padded floors.

I wasn't expecting much, since I have been doing little beside warmup/cooldown climbing with hangboard cycle. But it went pretty well.

[spray ]
I got 1xv6, 3xV5s, and 5xV4s. All V4s were flashes. And that got me 3rd place overall, in both flights combined.

My "ballpark" was N. from Columbus, also short, but strong. We climb about the same, and I was hoping to do about as well as she did. She climbed in the morning heat, but I checked the score sheet. She got 1900, I got 2480. So I think that was good.

There were lots of strong people there, which was cool. The top guys where flashing V9/V10s.

Of course, the routes were reachy... I mean, they SAID they weren't reachy, and they weren't VERY reachy... as in, I only jumped 3 times in the course of one V4. But you know, there were more than 3 moves in that V4, so not EVERY move was reachy. And I only had to jump once per two other V4s and use footholds for handholds on two V5s, and jump once on the other V5. But other than that, no, not reachy at all.

Hung out with Banz and co after the comp, drove home this morning. GUD times!

Shood have pulled owt teh umbrella fer that won.

Gneiss work on the crushing! I'm seeing an awesome season for you coming up.

So, you beat N.? She's been climbing pretty strong lately. Who else from Columbus was there? I heard that Jansen and Wolsty were heading down. I was almost tempted to go, just to hang out, play some gheymecube, spray about how bitchin I used to be.

Maybe take it to that open sewer.... stupid topos?

Yes, I beat N. by ~580 points. Which felt good, but kinda surprised me.

Brian placed 3rd overall, I think. Baby mutant Max was there, but didn't place. All the columbus people were in the first flight ,and left by the time we got there, so I don't know everyone who was there. There were lots of strong guys. To give you an idea, Manderson's friend Fred who got that famous 'lode punch didn't win, either. He night have tied with Brian in the combined 1st/2nd flight? I don't remember exactly, but there will be scores posted online. Fred's wife Heather beat me, but not by as much as I thought she would, and the other strong girl destroyed everyone. Magda, she's from Poland, now living in Fayetteville.

Heffe got a V7 flash, sent couple V6s, and a bunch of V5s, and that got him 1st place in the intermediates.

Maybes ewe cood spray me down a little more.... cuz there iz this won spot under my sack that isn't compleately soaked?

Yeah, for some reason calling out sexism is not O.K. with the boys in charge.

Glad you and cla are calling them out.

Link?

in my post above this one.

most telling moderashuns:

In a post by clausti with a bunch of questions like "why do you keep deleting my posts," she also included a photo of her leading atman, captioned, "here: me, with no shirt on, leading trad, in the desert. i hear that makes y'alls dicks hard around here." because she thought they could only delete whole posts and that if there was a picture they'd have to leave it.

turns out they can edit posts, too. They removed the questions about deleted posts and left ONLY the photo with the caption about hard dicks.

later, clausti posted something "camhat knows I'm a chick, he's putting his dick in me later." The "putting his dick in me later" line was removed.

to recap: photos and words intended to make men's dicks hard= allowed. any discussion of a voluntary dicking that a woman might enjoy= not allowed.

Yep, still a man's werld

Dogz winz!!Angelic

Hmm, makes me feel better about keeping Feisty as an inside cat.

Catz are killers, they can't seem to help themselves.

Well, except for Calvin. If he ever caught a mouse he would try to lick it to death.

I have been considering getting a cat. If i do, I really need the killer kind, to preemptively deal with any mouse problems. How do I find a kitten who will become a nice friendly neighborhood rodent killer?

Ewe thinking inside or outside mouse control? If you want mostly an outside cat, maybe check on craigslist for farmcats?

I would think that baby munkey will be psyched about you getting a cat.

Inside. And yeah, baby munkey would be psyched.

If you want inside kitteh, most any cat would be fine.

Hell, Feisty is a half blind softie who would probably starve within a few days of being let outside, and even she probably keeps mice away, just with her presence.

I would probably not get too focused on finding a great mouser, because that would probably run the risk of winding up with a cat who breaks stuff, jumps up on counters, and isn't cuddly enough.

Just get the best, cutest kitten who comes up to you when you check it out.

I sort of have a feeling if mice decided to get up in our condo, they would just laugh at our cat.

I was just wondering....where does pet tawk live on the scale of popular BET topics of conversation.

It's up there. We've also established that in BE-land, cats > dogs. Apologies to Louie and Brian.

I'm afraid this just isn't the case. Sure, cats are great. But I haven't seen any cats at a meatup.

Little Joe Morgan often brings his cat to teh crag. So this won day he brought teh cat to teh hole. Cat wus sleazing around teh crag checking it owt for quite sum time, then Milo poked his head up and teh cat freaked.... ran up Joe's arm to his shoulder (rip AB) sank his claws in and then pissed awl over Joe.

Joe iz pretty funny and took it pretty well, as we awl poynted and laughed. So fer teh rest ov teh day, when ever Joe wus up on sumthin, he wood look down sniff his arm and say... I smell like cat piss and laugh.
