While freezing my butt off back home in Massachusetts last week, I finally got around to editing the last of my IC footage into a short music video.

That was very well done, and definitely worth a view or two.

Heh. I'm originally from MA/ME, but I'm a California wuss now. Last Saturday I tried to drive to North Conway to go ice climbing with my sister in law and her husband (they're from ME). 2 hours into a 3.5 hour drive, I still had not made it out of MA (usually takes about 40 minutes to get to the NH border). Driving a max of 45 MPH on the highway (while passing everyone else!) just didn't cut it.

Turns out the climbing was perfect too. Damn, all I got to do was pull on some plastic.

That was a sweet video - what editing software did you use?

Nice, dude. Great video. I got a little dizzy from all the transitions, but still, quality work.

I used iMovie '09, which came with the Macbook Pro I bought last January. This beast has served me quite well and it is fairly easy to put together videos.

This particular video probably took a total of 6-8 hours over two days to make. The hard part is figuring out what story to tell, and what music to set it to. After I figure that out things start to flow.

BTW, that's a sweaty-palms blog posting about your last day in the Tetons. very well written. Got my adrenaline flowing just sitting here.

Thanks man. I can't take credit for it; it was Jeremiah who wrote and experienced that. Gave him nightmares for a long time after that.

I'm in the market for editing software, so I'll add that to the list...thanks!

edited to say: good luck with the contest.

Good job on the video. That "Way Rambo" finish is a hard one huh. That thing spits out more climbers than a Mormon polygamist spits out kids. Good luck on the contest.

The shots are nice, but the transitions were used a bit much. The first one or two was really interesting and definitely caught my eye, but after 5 or 6 they just became overplayed. I'm not trying to harsh on it at all, it's enjoyable and interesting. I like the story you're trying to tell, and the music was a good choice also. Thanks for sharing!

And good luck with the contest.

Yeah, tell me about it. I tried it for the first time back in April. Flailed my way through the #0.75 / ringlocks section with many hangs and gear re-arrangement to stop the cam slings and biners from blocking the ever-so-slight pods, then fell after the traverse.

This time, I was psyched. I'd been practicing ring locks all summer, and man, I was ready! No problem on that section this time, I cruised through to the rail, took a second to shake out then went for it. Got to the end of the rail, and spaced out on what I should do next. I was hanging from that flared hand jam, with no feet, trying to place a piece of gear in the #0.75 slot at the left end (yeah, I don't recommend this, hanging 1 handed from a crappy hand jam with no feet had predictable results). Grrr. Well, there's always next time.

Annunaki are Sumerian deities:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anunnaki

Japanese guys do bukkake. Paul, you seriously need to refresh your porn education.

They also wear kamikaze head bands when ice climbing:

And they do seppuku with the ice tool when they fail.

Yeah, forcing your head to just bust for the anchor and risk the ride seems like what most do. I still haven't sent that thing either...next time for me too.

Currently in 1st place (whoo!), but the 2nd place video is really giving me a run for my money. None of the others are close.

I'd point you at where to find the videos in the contest ... but as it's based entirely on youtube view counts, the temptation will be too high to watch the competitors. Wink

The video was shot with a little point-and-shoot digital camera, the Canon SD800IS. If you check out some of my other videos, especially the other one from Indian Creek (http://www.csh-east.org/...r-wall-and-cat-wall/), you'll see some experimentation with a 'continuous-shoot' mode in the camera. Holding down the shutter button takes full resolution photos as fast as the camera can save them. Makes for some interesting stop-action video.

and I think I said before, I used iMovie '09 to put the whole thing together.

Hope ya'll got out climbing this weekend. I just got back from Vegas. Only got one short day of climbing in, but it was fun none the less.

Looks like I'm running about 50/50 with the "liked the transitions" vs "hated the transitions". I'm mostly happy with them. The only thing I would change next time is to have a more diverse set of pictures/videos running in the frames. Really easy to do in iMovie, but I just didn't get around to doing it.
