bad day motivation-wise yesterday. trying to do a floral painting that's not working out and just not inspired to paint the family home. two other paintings that I think could be good are on hold until I get my mojo back.

yesterday just played games all day (was a holiday here - kind of like independence day, but not really. they kind of have two of them here, anyhoo).

Starting to realize that good inspiration and bad inspiration is the toll of the artist. trying to find ways of breaking out of slumps, or at least trying to learn something new when painting has gone to shit. been turning to drawing during these periods. and so today broke out the oil pastel crayons. i'm not much of a drawer, so these can be difficult to work with for me. it's technically painting still, but there's a heavy drawing component to using these.

side story - been going to a flamenco school to practice drawing the dancers. fucking hard, but sometimes i get latched on to one position or movement and end up spending three hours drawing that one position over and over again until I get it. - end side story

decided to draw the latest body position three times with the oil pastels on cardboard (free = cheap, and yes, I can sell that shit). one came out pretty good (good choice of colors), one was OK (OK choice of colors), and the third was meh (poor choice of colors).

This tells me something: when I get colors right, I get the painting right. Drawing will come with time, but that's where my strengths are right now: using the color wheel.

Overall = satisfied.

Tomorrow, Churrasco (brasilian bbq) at my girlfriend's parent's house with my girlfriend's son (she's still in spain). brasilian bbq is good...and so is a late-night beer after a productive day.

The Friday doldrums have arrived. I'm at a point where working any more will become counter-productive. I must go home and plan for something to do this weekend. I was going to climb, but the *chance* of rain has frightened my climbing partner. UnsureUnimpressed Sokak... land of the cloud scared.

So, now to figure out somehow to recover the weekend. <--grammatically, that sucked. Time to go home.

That sucks. I used to hit the 'Gunks with a 40% chance of rain. It was always worth it to go.

Rumney at 80% and still salvageable.

N. Conway at 90%.

Gunks - let it rain... Something will dry in 20 minutes.

Here.. I'd go as long as there wasn't predicted lightening.

Meh... We'll see if I can salvage it. I'd still go, regardless, for the hike in.

buy the Mad Rock belay device that's causing all this stress here lately, modify it for self-belay just like you would with the grigri 1... oh, wait.

I have a GriGri1, unmodified, that I could very well modify. Or... I could wrangle up another partner.

It's moot.

I'm climbing the stone tomorrow!

Went to REI, had a $20 coupon, found several pairs in my size.
Tried on a Mad Rock and a La Spurtiva Taratulace. The price was about the same, the Taratulace's were a bit more stiff. Standing in them, the toes just barely touched the front. Should be Good. $80 - $20. 60 dollar shoes FTW.
