I've been there more than 5 times and although I haven't talked very much with the UNFRIENDLY staff @ the gym, the overall experience was something NOT to be desired. Climbers in that gym don't seem to have heard of the word "shower". Nor do they like to share routes. There will be 10 smelly people on 3 different walls and they get angry if asked to share the route. Staff also seem to have not heard of showers either.

Sorry, I posted this for the OSU (Oregon State University) Climbing Gym. I assumed that since I was posting it in their reviews, it'd get posted there.

Well, at least your university gives you a climbing outlet. Our university rec center is just a standard iron and machines place, and it's nice, but in that polished "bunny" way - I'm just here to look studly in my ripped-off-sleeves frat T-shirt, I'm just here to hope a guy notices my cheek-skimming UofA shorts! Am I being an anti-social wretch again! fie, fie!!

So you dont like my gym punk! IT seems like the issue is when you didn't talk to anyone which leads to the issue that you will not meat anyone if you dont talk to them!!! And to make fun of the staff!!! oh boy you've made some trouble for yourself~! My sugestion is that you come in While Im working wich is Mon, And Fri. From 4-7! And I will be sure to change your mind!!! I will give you more routes and beta about your quite life than you could possibly dream about. If anyone else want to attack my gym then you are invited in during the hours above and I will meet each and every one of your needs and issues when you arrive. Bashing my gym is bashing me! And I dont deal with crap that well, so shut up and climb!!!

well, ozzy, it looks like you just proved the original poster's points quite well... i will be sure to AVOID this gym at all costs if i am ever in the area... if you want to PROMOTE your gym, i would advise that you NOT be oviously hostile in your reply. sheesh.

I dont think we understand the issue here... The hostility is strait up my personality that will be loved by all... What I am stateing is that if you come to my gym while I am here.. You WILL have a good time because I will go far out of my way to make it that way! For the most part mike the only way for you to truely understand is to drive out here and climb with the OZ...

Ozzy, Lay off the Red Bull and take a chill. And while you're there, take a remedial spelling class, you're in college and should worry about that more than defending you barely post pubescent hormone driven angst. Sorry, just calling it like i see it.

Ahh.. this is why I love the Internet. Ozzy is a bad ass, you just don't know him... I would say that our little Beaver gym is very friendly and a ton of cool people work there. Like anywhere else, just talk to people!! ... and don't take posts too seriously, its all good fun. Remember, bashing isn't nice, constructive criticism is better... like "hey ozzy, you smell funky, go take a shower..." :)

In reply to: pluss spelling is over-rated Ummm . . . Not really. Proper grammar and spelling on the forums is interpreted by many (like good diction in a conversation) as an indication of the intelligence of the writer. Need I say more? On the other hand, I think the whole "stinky" criticism is a little bizarre. Is it really that bad? Was it hot in there that day? Some people just smell worse than others when they sweat, and they can't help it. I just hold my breath and try to walk away. I've had my share of criticisms for gyms (owner has bad safety practices, boring wall construction or routesetting) but the smell is a first for me!

If you want bad smells check out a tiny hockey locker room with 15-16 plus players with equipment that rarely gets aired out and never washed. Now that smells bad. If you bitch about it you'll be lucky to just get some nasty piece of old clothing in the face

In reply to: ...and its a gym, so it stinks, dont come if you cant stand the stink. just shutup really Wow, "just shutup"....sounds like a friendly place to me! Can't wait to visit! AND Just for the record, not all climbing gyms stink. Come to think of it, out of the 4 in San Diego, not one of them stinks...they have this really cool thing called ventilation...maybe I'm just lucky though, who knows.

I don't know Ozzy but it sounded to me like he was trying to be nice. He was saying "come in and I'll go out of my way to change your experience". You people are bored if you have to make something of this. It's a gym for Christ sake! You can't take gym climbing seriously!!!!1

A couple years ago I spent a summer at OSU. We did a little climbing in the gym, and for the most part the staff seemed pretty friendly. But it did always seem like the place smelled kinda bad.

Now I'm just a newbie, but if you didn't like the gym then why did you go there more five times? Plus, your critisism was a little harsh. I've climed there before, and it did smell kind of funky but it wasn't that bad.

The Oz? The Wizard of Oz? The Ozman Commeth? Ozzie Smith? Ozzy Osbourne? I don't think I know any other "Oz's" other than those. Oh yeah, and even I, who enjoys a good flaming of a fellow rc.com'er once in a while, didn't start until my post count was atleast in the double digits... :P...but remember kids..."the SaskClimber" is all about the good vibes :D

Who cares if the people there were not nice to you, its about climbing not socializing. I spend quite a bit of time there and I've never seen any hangdogging on any of the walls, even when the place is at compacity you never have to wait for a route. If your sacred about getting your feeling hurt stay at home with you mommy.

In reply to: Who cares if the people there were not nice to you, its about climbing not socializing....If your sacred about getting your feeling hurt stay at home with you mommy. First of all, the social aspect of climbing gyms is one of the best things about [most] them. I have met many people at climbing gyms that I have become close friends with. I'd rather go to a gym with friends (social) than by myself (not social). If I went to a gym, and the people there were not nice to me, do you think that I'd soon be wanting to go back? even if it was a good gym? Also, trying to burn somebody by telling them to stay at home with their mommy isn't the best way to make an entrance into rc.com on your first post... just my .02 though, so have a nice day and grow up a bit...

I am sorry if my post has offended anyone. It was not my intention to "flame" anybody. I was just pointing out that going to the same gym five times and complaining about it is not logical. and yes i know :deadhorse:

I've only been climbing there this year (2009), about twice a week, and have found most of the people to be super friendly and the routes get changed regularly. From 4-9 the ICC is usually packed, to the point where you have to be put on a waiting list to get in! I believe they are planning on building a new, much larger indoor gym (both top rope and bouldering), assuming it got passed in the last election.
