Austin, can you chill out?
Dude, I'm in your store all the time buying stuff...I come there because there's alot of cool people there, and generally you get treated pretty good! We climb in the same places, we know the same people. I try to get everyone that asks to buy from your store, we all do. The JBU students, the guys from work, my old high school buddies, my friends when they come in for climbs out of town! Dude half the people that come into Lewis & Clark come there because they're christians because of one person that used to work there who was too! There are alot of climbing stores in Fayetteville, and we try to be loyal because we know that customers make your money.
I wasn't trying to be a smart anything? I thought you would know what I was talking about and say something like "sure I'll pay $0.35, and shipping, you just tell me what happened to the box...lol" And I would have told you! Kind of like an inside joke you know? Because I'm a Christian you single me out to bash? Someone mocks your rope and you joke around with them haha, but I make a joke and buy your stuff, and get others to do the same and you slam me? I didn't mean any harm man...I'm sorry if you took it the wrong way, and I'll take a look at your old bible. P.S. Roy bought a rack...but if you could get a couple more of those OMEGA 72kn Biners in the store I'll grab those up! Peace man?

Lol, it's cool man  Just thought you hated me or something. By the way, it sucks what happened to that box you guys put up out at lincoln!!! I'm pretty sure it was the fisher men who load their boats right there! If you wanna try it again, I'd put it in between some of those boulders in a secret place and we'll just let only the climbers in on our little secret box! You know what they say, when you fall get up again. Don't let them win!

Jerry - No, the A-bod has no belay loop. :(

koko - that's not the rope I'm selling, this is:
Maxim 9.8 mm Trad, Sport, or Alpine: the choice for one or all. Lightweight without skimping on performance. Used by Randy Leavitt to redpoint his new Trad route in Yosemite "Book of Hate" (13.d). This is the rope that Climbing magazine named an "Editor's Pick" in 1999 for its outstanding durability. Colors may vary.

MAXIM 9.8X200'BI-PAT DRY

440264 207.95

This is from bittersweet gear online. :P

telluridehiker - Yes I still have the metolius draws. PM me if interested.

Guest - thank you for the support.

Josh - I guess I could understand your post, except that directly above it, it has already been discussed that the rope I'm selling is much better than the trash you mentioned. It's not A rope for sale, it's a SPECIFIC rope for sale. I wasn't asking where to find A rope for $100, I was asking where to find THAT rope for $100, does this help?

Daisyfay - Why would I get busted when I'm selling this gear for less than I paid for it? What kind of discount do you think I get?

For those of you who are interested in gear, feel free to make me an offer or ask questions. For those of you who are interested in bashing ME, go start a hate post in another forum, thanks.

I sent you a PM, but this is just in case you didn't get it. I'm looking for a Trango Jaws or Trango B52. Would you happen to have one? The cheapest I found it for was 23.90. Online, it's cheaper, but that's before you pay shipping and handling.

Well, Mike, there are a few things I guess I need to address here... First, I'm not quite sure how your christian propoganda applies. Second, I have already answered accusations that I am pro-dealing or using E.P. to profit. I have already said this before, but I guess I can say it again, since you obviously missed it:

1.Why would I sell gear for less than I paid for it if I was trying to manipulate the pro-deal/ep system?

2.Why would I buy the gear, use it, and then sell it, instead of just selling new gear for very cheap?

3.What's your problem?

Besides that, most of the gear that I am selling was not bought as a pro-deal, or even from the store where I manage the climbing department... We don't even carry Black Diamond, Petzl, LaSportiva, etc...

Good answer!!!
Actually I thew in the whole WWJD thing because a previous reply addressed some issues related to being a "christian". (I myself am a "bad Christian) I figured that would just get your attention!!!
I really could care less where you got yor used gear from...I just thought I'd stoke the fire a little bit to see what the response was!!!
I myself manage a mtn shop as well as work at a rock gym and have had multiple opportunities to prodeal gear...
Most, well below wholesale prices... (BELOW 1/2 off). I would just despise anyone who would take advantage of their situation or position to profit from it!!!
Abused Pro deals end up looking like THE NORTH FACE one, very limited and crappy selections!!!
But that's just TNF so who cares, right.

I'm the idiot? No. I'm trying to keep newbies from getting ripped off. The idiots are the one who bought a Maxim rope for $225 and wants to sell it used for $150 cause it has "no UIAA falls, just sport falls," and you, for defending him. You can get a new Beal for $150, and you won't find a better rope than that. And for those on a budget there are the Ocun and Lanex ropes, which are certainly not "spools of bailing twine," which sell for $89 - $110.

It ain't me that needs to "get a clue," Kid.

also, jay is right. that argument should come to an end now. becuase i said.

Well, the main point is, that I'm NOT using my pro-deal. I am very involved with the company I work for, and being a small outdoor store, I feel a lot of loyalty to the owners, who are much like family to me. I trust them and they trust me and that's what makes my job great. I'm in a tough spot right now, and I'm just trying to make it. It really sucks for me to have to sell this gear, because climbing is something that I love to do. However, I am at a point in my life where there have to be other priorities. Therefore, I am trying to trim down to the bare minimum, even if it means getting by with just bouldering and borrowed gear.

Not that it's any of your business.

John, your stuff is on the way, I'll PM you with UPS tracking #, thanks for the help!

Also, jt512, I'm a little offended that you're accusing me of trying to "rip off" some newbies... Most of the people that would be interested in that rope would at least have a little more experience. I've been around this site for a while now, and one of the things that I like about it is that for the most part, people at least respect each other. When I get out of line or make abrasive comments, I at least have the maturity to apologize instead of making accusations. If you disagree with this, then that's your prerogative, go nuts with it.

We shouldn't even have to discuss this, seeing as this is the GEAR FOR SALE forum, not the FIND SOMEONE TO PISS ONforum.

That should be enough.

No, the only people who would consider buying a used rope with "no UIAA falls taken, just short sport and trad falls" for $150 are clueless newbies. I might pay $50 for such a rope after I had a chance to examine it.

It looks like some people need to look up what it means to "rip off." At any rate, hopefully nobody is dumb enough to pay $150 for a used Maxim rope, when for about the same price they can get a better rope new.

From Merriam-Webster online:

Main Entry: rip-off
Pronunciation: 'rip-"of
Function: noun
Date: 1969
1 : an act or instance of stealing : THEFT; also : a financial exploitation
2 : a usually cheap exploitive imitation

Now, I knew this would be complicated for you, so here is some explanation:

Financial exploitation, as it applies here, means trying to take advantage of someone, I.E. someone who needs money, by offering them less than a fair price. So, if you were to offer someone $50 dollars for a rope that new costs over $200, then that would be financial exploitation, and therefore, according to Webster's definition, a "rip-off."

Does this help?

Did you have problems with math as a child? Because you seem to have problems with basic arithmetic now... Selling a rope for almost $100 dollars less than I paid for it is "ripping someone off?" And why do you seem to be the only one who has a problem with this? Could it be because you're wrong? Just an idea...

Sheesh. The Used Gear forum has had the most excitement of any forum this week! How about it!

Talons, I am going to put a disclaimer in here, so please, take note of it: I am NOT trying to pick a fight with you. I do not wish to offend you. This is just my rational opinion, as a consumer:

$150 for a USED rope is too much. Period. I don't care if it cost $225 new, if it's been dry treated, and that it's only had short falls on it (cos I am sure a rope that has had even ONE Factor 2 fall would be heading permanently to the Rope Retirement Home). It's a USED rope. The depreciation (at least, in terms of resale) on ropes is higher than most other items of gear, given their critical, personal role in climbing. Similarly, ropes are not Twinkies. They just do not have as extended of a shelf life as gear that is made of, say, metal.

You may not be able to find THAT particular rope for $150, but you can find plenty of other quality ropes (new) for $150 or less. Like the person on page 2 (who signed his name as Josh but is under talons05, a bug of some sort I guess) said, I doubt that anybody is going to pay $150 for your used rope.

I see some of your other "software" is/was for sale at a significant discount. The rope should be too. You're just going to have to take the hit if you want it to sell. Sorry, man.

But good luck with your liquidation!

((edit: clarity))

It's a used rope, you fucking moron. The fact that you were stupid enough to pay $225 for it is your problem. Anyone can get a new rope as good or better than that Maxim of yours for around $150, the price you're asking for it after it's been used and fallen on.

Jt512 - tisk, tisk...

However, I must say I'm surprised that it's taken this long for you to resort to name calling. I figured you would say the same thing at least 10 or so more times before you dipped into profanity.

Here's my take on it -
I really don't care if I sell this rope or not. If someone wants to buy it, I can let it go, but if not, I'll just keep on using it. It's not that big of a deal. Some of you, I guess, figure that I am in such a tight spot that you're going to rake in the deals. Not so, I'm selling just enough gear to get by, and the rope is not one of the things I really needed to sell...

Yes, this is the most heated I've ever seen the GEAR FOR SALE forum get...

As Jay said, Gear Express is currently selling a 9.8x60 Maxim for $109. REI.com is selling the same rope for like $107 I think.

You can get a 10.5x60 Edelweiss 11-fall rated rope from GearExpress for $109.

The Ocun ropes are not bailing twine, they're excellent ropes at a phenomenal price.

Right now you can get a Beal 10.2x60m rope from Nomad Ventures in jtree for $129.

So to back up what Jay said, anyone buying a used Maxim rope for $150 is an idiot. The only rope worth more than about $130 (considering that you can get a 10mmx70m dry rope for that) is an edge-proof wall rope from Bluewater, Edelweiss, Roca or Mammut, for which you should be willing to pay $160-$190.

No, you're greedy because you are trying to sell a used rope for the price of a comprable new one, if not more. The only people who would be ignorant enough to buy your rope at anywhere near the price you are asking are ignorant newbies. Furthermore, your justification of your asking price -- that the rope hasn't had any "UIAA falls," only "short sport and trad falls" -- is one that only an ignorant newbie would fall for. So, you are greedy because you are trying to take advantage of ignorant newbies.

Let's bring this back on topic; which is either you want the gear (reply is appropriate), or you don't (no need to reply).

Further discussions on the validity of the prices, etc. need to be held in private message or in the community forum if you feel the need to discuss it publicly.

Since you're both moderators as well, I'm sure you'll understand my request to keep things on track here, and I appreciate your help.

Mick

Hope ya hav'nt heard this one....

After a hard day of climbing two ropes head into the local pub. They prop up on the stool and the barkeep glares at them "HEY!! I can't serve to you guys...you're ropes!!! GET OUTTA HERE!!" The barkeep grabs the two ropes before they could move and tosses them out the door. One rope looks at the other and says "man, they can't treat us like that, I'm gonna get a drink here!" The other rope looks and says "forget it, they won't serve us". "Just watch" replied the other. The rope then proceeds to tie a knot at the top and ruffles the top. He walks into the bar again, sits down and orders a drink. The barkeep looks at him and says "Hey, you're that rope!" The rope leans over the bar and replies "Nope, frayed knot"..

ha ha ha .... okay it was long and I thought it was funny... sorry...
