so here is my gripe about climbing cloths i hate shorts when wearing harnesses so either get caprie's, pants or shorts that are tight light spandex so they don't get bunched up in the harness. I can't stand that! other then that i really don't buy any climbing spacific cloths i just buy what is comfortable to climb in and cheap saves money for other stuff like gear :).

The only prana pant I climb in is the borrego pant. I have two pairs I've had for over two years. One pair that was added last Christmas, and hopefully a pair for this Christmas. I climb in them both hot and cold weather and in the gym.

I estimated that the two oldest pairs have had over 150 washings. They are worn every week.

What are the other Prana pants that are falling apart? Sounds like we need to steer clear of them.

I usually climb in my Verve capri-length pants plus a sport/bra top as this is Florida. when outdoors, usually wear also a zip top fleece. I have found that scrub pants (surgeons/docs) with a simple tie at the waist are comfy, large at the bottom, cheap and severely durable and great for climbing, bouldering or just lazing around thereafter. Take a look at:
www.athleta.com
www.title9sports.com
or as suggested old navy stuff.
Also as it seems you are a thoughful guy you may want to take a look at what she most frequently wears as this is probably the style she generally would pick-then go within that style...sometimes women don't like to change much .

I've had some great experiences with the borrego as well, but it's the only prAna pant that I have. I do have several of the tanks but they're no more special than any other tank I've bought. Sale items.

As to the original questions, I most often climb in pants or tights. I manage to bruise and scrape myself up quite a bit even with a layer covering my legs, so I don't do shorts. I prefer climbing in tanks if the weather is permitting.

I've got several pair of the Petra capri's. While they're comfy as hell and breathe well, they can get shredded kinda easily. For some reason every pair I've ever had gets rips in the right pocket area from when I have cams hanging off my rack. Seriously, gear on your rack - especially cams - will rip thru the material on their pocket exteriors. 4 pairs and they all have done that. But since they were all like $15 at the Prana warehouse sale, it's no biggie to me. If I paid full price though I'd be kinda pissed.

My Borregos on the other hand have been through a hell of a lot of climbing and have held up great.

My Pranas (Borregos and Tenayas) lasted about 2 days climbing in Hueco. Yes I am pissed! We had a guy here last week who does PR for Prana. They are making Kevlar pants for the boys this coming year, but, apparently we girls don't play rough enough to rate out own model. I say we give 'em hell!
