Well... if you were to come to Monterrey you wouldn't have problems in identifying the most common guy names, since they all refer to themselves as "guey". There are very little guys who use there names, cause if they decided not to use "guey" they would probably use some other wird nick... Heck... I think that I barely now my fellow climbers REAL names!!

In reply to: In reply to: In reply to: haa haa, funny topic. I always hear Brian and Jason. Oooh Brian....that is another common climber name. Hey, i cant help it, maybe ill just change my name to Mars Lander, yeah thats the ticket.... :P what´s this about the quote quote quote stuff??? Oops, am I in the ladies room??? sorry, was following keazah, by the way, I´ve never heard any of those names or nicknames here in México  and over here, they´re all random, and everyone has two names at least, cause guey is everyone´s callsign.

All the guys I know go by the nicknames they gave one another Spuety, calander boy, sunshine, glory boy, littlejohn etc...But now that I think of it, there are a lot of - Brian Mike Eric Jason Dave maybe that's why a lot of them go by their last name?

In reply to: It seems that with climber guys, there are some names that I hear way more than others...seems like every other climber guy I've encountered is either named Jason, Josh, Tim or Jay. Totally random thought. Anyone else notice this trend? I was just thinking about that the other day at he crag, how many times I hear those 4 names when it comes to guys on the rock. Just like how 80 percent of all climber guys are either engineers, computer techs or mechanics  . and Airline Pilots. :)

Jay I never ever heard my name anywhere in all my time growing up till I came to my current job. Turns out that my co-worker is named Jason and Jay is his nickname. Good to hear there are other folk out there with a weird name like mine! I hear a lot of people yelling the name Rock at the climbing areas I frequent...that name must be reeeeeeeally popular. -Gate

I know wayyyyy too many David's, and ironically enough, there are also 2 Dillon's and 2 Dan's. Almost every guy I climb with first name starts with D.

[quote="gblauer"]could it be that those names are the popular names for the RC.com demographic? (in other words, simply a reflection of what our society selected for names 20 years ago?) Here is a list of the most popular names in the 1980s: 1 Michael 33316 Jessica 23744 2 Christopher 27697 Jennifer 22274 3 Matthew 22914 Amanda 18260 4 Joshua 19983 Ashley 17489 5 David 19556 Sarah 13676 Up here (West Coast Canada) it seems that every climber guy is Mike, Chris, Matt or Dave. Go figure - 4 out of the top 5. Makes it easy if you have a poor memory - pretty well 1 chance in 4 you'll call a guy by the right name.

But, my childhood best friend tells me that all the Heathers and Lindsays are now about 2 kids deep (I am 23, BTW) and all the Ryans and Jasons are in rehab, the military, dead, or some combination thereof.... hey. I grew up in central Cali. :P But Chris is by far the most common climber name I can think of. I have decided that the Archtypical "Brah" climber boy is named Chris Christensen.

Even with all the Jasons of my generation, I knew very few Jays. Of course, jt512 isn't from my generation :P

My name is Sean, and as far as I know theres only one other person in my high school (about 1500 people total) named Sean, I've never even met another climber named Sean. I did meet a mountain biker named Ezra and another named Pilgrim once. In fact they were brothers... good mountain bikers though.

I think that a good runner up for a common guy climber's name is Jonathan, or Jon. Maybe it's just freak coincidence, but in the crew that I climbed with in Texas (there were 10 of us), five of us were Jonathans.
