Boulder. I dunno. I lived in Denver for four years. Did a lot of climbing AROUND Boulder. Primarily the flatirons and Boulder Canyon. No I don't think Boulder has a climbing area you can ride the bus to. I'm sorry, but I can't accept that.

I like camelback; folks have mixed opinions. You do have to climb like a cat, move softly and test everything. I would suggest Donamatrix (2 pitches) to the Monk (1 pitch) would make a good day there. The drive from Litchfield would take a bit less than an hour. A great day would be to do the mountaineer's route on Courthouse Rock, 30 min from Litchfield. It is a trad route, 5.4 or so. It is very ledgey, lot of 4th class and take two ropes. You can climb to the top or not. PM me if you want a partner when you get closer. M

Hey, Manny, is Domanatrix that newish two pitch 5.8 you put up at base of the Monk, where p1 tops out in the huge hueco?

If so, I can vouch that that's a very decent route, well protected with quality bolts and fun pebble-pinching. The praying monk is the area classic, and doing these two routes is three fun pitches of moderate climbing in a cool location. I'd definitely recommend that over Lookout mountain for in-town, non-gear routes.

OTOH, if you don't mind the 1.5-2 hours to Queen Creek, you can do 8 quality clip-ups in four hours at the Pond. Have a good time.-Bret

Again, thanks for all the information. We'll probably try and hit Queens for a day and then just do a half day at Camelback and hit the suggested routes. Can anyone tell me where to get some good route information for Camel that would show the "new" route?

Thanks

Marty Karabin's foldout guide (get it at REI) has the new routes. The Headwall is easy to find and great in the afternoon, it faces west. You can see the donamatrix from the parking lot. Just hike southerly along the base of the headwall on a rough trail til you get to the route. Like mandrake said, it has a huge hueco at the end of the first pitch. At the cruxy move to the left @ 1/2 way up the first pitch, stay below the bolt. I did it recently and saw lot of chalk above the traverse, scary. Have fun. Manny

Camelback is not that bad. C'mon. Be grateful people. I feel lucky to live in a city which sports a crag that you can ride the f'n city bus to. A little sport, a little bouldering and some trad. It's worth a look. Donamatrix is a fun 2-pitch sport route that is definately worth it. Can anybody else name a city that has a climbing crag smack in the middle of it?

Duluth, MN
The woopie wall. only like 6 routes, all top rope, but it is till a craig right in the middle of the city. There is also tons of bouldering within the city limits.
