I've also heard rumors that some guy who lives right across from the crags lets people camp in a field for a small fee. This hopefully will be available. Matt

Hey All, Mad River here, I just got back from Rumney, AWSOME!!. As for the camping, I stayed at (2) sites, Mountain Spine? and Plymouth Sands, THEY SUCK BIG TIME!! I checked out Campton State Park, it's a little out of the way but a great place and they have a whole section for group camping. We could try and reserve it. It is much better than the places I stayed. Also, a little further is Waterville Valley? Anyway, put me down for (2) (thanks Alan) we'll be there! Let me know on the camping, otherwise I'm going to make reservations at Campton. Bob and Vicky aka Mad River

OK, I wish I'd gotten to this earlier, but I just found out that I can offer accomodations for anyone who needs them at my grandparents' house in Campton (don't worry, they won't be there). Campton is about 30 minutes away from Rumney so it's not next door, but the house is awesome, with showers, kitchen, bumper pool and darts, beds, etc. I can only be there until early Monday morning though, so everyone will have to clear out and go climbing by 7 or 8! I think it would be a great time if a group of us stayed there (it could probably fit everyone, but I'm sure many already have campsites or other arrangements). PM me if you're interested, because I'd like to get some idea of how many people to expect. Hope to see you there! Jan [ This Message was edited by: jhwnewengland on 2002-08-06 20:27 ]

Jules: forgive me for jumping in at this late stage but I have a presumtuous suggestion. Have you tried calling the Rock Barn. Jim(the owner) is a cool guy and may allow some climbers to camp on the grass to the side/behind, especially if you offer payment. He may not want to upset neibours though so don't count on it. I tried knocking on the lady's door last time I was there but nobody was home. It is one of the houses opposite the meadows. Another good option if she would allow it. I'm considering going as I am being asked to go but will decide later. The Red is a good option too in October....sooo... what will it be????

Dartmouth is approx. 31 miles from Rumney. It's a nice drive and takes about 45 to 50 minutes due to the slow traffic on the back roads (118) and the 35 MPH in the small towns. If you'd like directions, PM me. Can't wait! Rock On!!

Just wondering if people had made reservations any where? I'd like to try and camp around as many people as possible. I was going to make a reservation, but have decided to hold off for a little. So where is everyone going to be? I was thinking of taking madriver's advice and looking into Campton SP. TD
