as snow seems to be nowhere in sight and the holidays are already booked, i was wondering whether any of you guys knows whether it is possible to climb in arco/ lake garda or somewhere around this area in december (provided of course that autumn prevails!) anywhere in switzerland? it would kind of suck to get out of belgium for two weeks and not to ski AND not to rock-climb (no ice climbing for me-yet). thanks!

well, if it stays dry and you can handle the cold, you can climb. but if its going to snow, i suggest moving further south. i can give you a pretty good estimate of conditions in southern slovenian crags. currently theyre wet and not too cold

Othern than that, another good place is Finale Ligure, 4 hours driving from Arco. I don't know about Switzerland...sorry... Let me know if you need more details about Italy. Ciao Paolo

thanks for this! will probably come back to your offer, paolo, once my vacation started- which unfortunately is not next week, though the weather seems to be perfect for a week on swiss rocks, though not really for some back country skiing...

it snowed. if nothing unexpected happens, you will be skiing. otherwise, climbing in Arco is totally possible, if it's sunny and there's no wind. apart from that, as mentioned before, Ponte Brolla in CH is another option, but Finale Ligure would probably be your best choice, good weather provided. cheers, heiko
