allterrain360 wrote: Hey I'm a 5.8-5.9 range climber looking to get outdoors and climb, partners for Gunks-Peterskill-Poison Ivy wall NY March 28-April 5th. Weekdays when it's not crowded would be cool. I'm a teacher off from school so I'll be free all week. I only have a rope and top rope set up gear but can follow trad or sport a well. I will also be available weekends all summer and weekdays after May. Christi

Is Peterskill even open for climbing this early? IIRC, it opens mid-April, no?

Hey, I lead 5.8-5.9 comfortably. I have my own gear for leading. Desperate to climb moderates/possibly toprope some harder routes Thursday 4/1. I plan on staying through the weekend too, but would love a partner for Thursday. Let me know

(I also posted this update on your 2009 request for info on Poison Ivy Wall.) I'm not sure the status of the Wall for this season. Went there today - lots of "No Parking" signs down the road and near the marina. Didn't walk to the actual climbing spot, but they might have closed it to civilians, according to people in the McDonalds at the top of the road. I emailed a lady at the Academy tonight asking for clarification. She heads up the climbing program, according to another website. No reply yet. Anybody climb there this year? If it's not signed off "No Trespassing," where are you parking to access?

Got my email response today from the coach. She says that PIW is open to civilians, no problem. I guess we all just have to walk a lot further to get there . . .

Thanks. Like I said, I've climbed there for years without issues; even called the MPs once for an emotionally disturbed individual near the river - never had a problem. The only thing that concerned me this year was the "No parking" signs. I'm sure the female coach is very familiar with the issue; she appears to run most of the program. I'll probably look it over this weekend.

An update today on the parking. The operators of the marina have put up a sign for daily parking in their lot for $5.00. I talked to them about climbers using the lot, and that's what they wanted to do, since the police have marked the road "No parking." One of the owners said that he will be opening some bathrooms soon. $5.00 isn't bad, considering how long that hill looks after a day of climbing :)
