In the routes section of this website there are two climbing spots in Bowling Green, Kentucky. One of them, Shanty Rock, has several bolted routes according to the info given. Does anyone know anything about this place? Directions? Access? What the routes are graded? I would like to climb there once I get home for the semester, so if anyone has any information or wants to climb in the Kentucky area, PM me.

It's Shanty Hollow, not Shanty Rock. It isn't much. If you want to climb in Bowling Green goto Clifty Hollow. Here is the link: http://www.rockclimbing.com/routes/listArea.php?AreaID=3633 And if you want more beta ask the guys in Nat's Outdoor Store.

Thanks for the info. Is Clify Hollow very good? How many routes are there? On the site, it only lists bouldering routes. So would you recommend this place? Also, as far as Shanty Hollow goes, what all is there? How many routes and what are their ratings?

From my understanding Shanty Hollow is still under development. But I know the guy that posted the info, he says it isn't worth driving too then it isn't worth driving to. I know nothing else... ask the guys in Nat's. Tell them rc.com sent you.

Shanty is pitiful for roped climbing (4 bolted climbs, several unnamed topropes), but may show some promise for bouldering (fairly undeveloped). There are some issues with access to some of the area. bgclymer@msn.com will know more about the access. Andy is right, Clifty is far better for access, bouldering by far, and about a dozen topropes. Plus it's right on the road.

I am thinking about going to Clifty tomorrow. What is the access like? Who do I need to contact, if anyone, about being able to go climbing. I will probably stop by Nat's to get more info, but if you could give me anything, I would appreciate it.

You probably already know this, but you need contact no one. Jsut park clear off the road and pick up after yourself, just like everywhere else. Oh, and have a good time too. That's the whole point after all.
