like what is the hardest problem you have just done, not onsight or redpoint... just done. and what rating do you normally work on? i think i average i do V2/V3... max is a V3 i believe. there are some really fun HARD problems that are great to the crux then kill me... especially highballers... but they are great to work on for a long time and then finally send and then get it to the point where you are confident in it!

I have done a couple V6s in Alabama, other than that, I do mostly V4-V5 range and I am currently working on this classic (from what I have heard) V7.

Okay, before I go answering, I just want to know why you need to know.

That being asked...

I don't know, maybe v8 as my hardest? Probably v0-v8 as normal.

When I use to boulder I was working V5, but I don't boulder anymore.

I got sick of getting pumped on a 5.9 becuase it was over 7 moves.

Quit bouldering and started doing alot of TR's.

Now I'm leading alot more, and working on strength alot.

Hearts...is where I'm at.
my gym, uses hearts
diamonds
clubs
spades

forget what goes where.
hearts being the easier routes.
They make me work hard!
I try not to pay too close attention to ratings, though.

Blue and black tape at the gym. That one was way hard. Especially that final move from the pinch to the sloper. Man, my hands start sweating just thinking about it. Seriously, probably V5 or V6 I did a couple V6's at Joes Valley but I get spanked at the gyms and struggle with V4's.

Ok, is this indoor or outdoor, or either? Lets just go with double digits for both. I like the system that nikegirl has, and would love to hear more about it. Please let me know how it is setup. Take care all.

I'm sorry dude, I'm just too good for you!

That V8 could be total bullshit. I don't play the numbers game. What I do know is that at a comp I went to a few weeks ago, they had problems rated from V0-V10. I did a problem that was probably V7-V8.

But hey, maybe I'm full of it. That's up for you to decide when I school your ass at the crag!

p.s. this post is full of sarcasm and bologne.

I ACTUALLY CLIMB V13!!!!

V0? Do not be embarrassed! I feel that the latter part of bouldering, and any other climbing sorts are particularly based on one's personal accomplishments, and rather not their universal grade. The ways of our world wide climbing society solely complies to the accomplishments of very hard grades. To see the headlines of the news (in any climbing magazine) reading 'Sharma Completes 5.15!' This philosophy is proven when a climber (or anyone else reading a climbing news article) realizes that the headlines read 'Patrick McCallum repeats V2 boulder problem at cup and saucer! His own personal best accomplishment!'

Although our climbing societies accross the world press us to believe otherwise, I feel that one's climbing accomplishments, can only be admired wholly from that particular person themself. I feel that your own personal judgement of imporvement, should be considered by yourself, seeing how much you have improved over a certain period of time, using grades only as a guide line to analise your improvements.

Though more on topic, I cannot really say a positive 100% answer to this question, for every route that I have bouldered on have no grade (and aren't really considered to be a route firstly). Roughly, I would have to say I would be around a V0, or V1. Maybe V2 if I'm luckey.

first i'd like to say thank you pat, second tangboy i got a thought for you instead of asking what leval we all climb at why dont you ask what sweet problems we've been on. cause other whise it sounds like you'll only talk to piano cause he's sick strong and sence i have yet to tell you how hard i climb you wont talk to me. it's not about numbers it should be about the route, cause i've been on some sweet lower end problems and some shitty higher end problems but its all relative cause in the same light i've been on some absolutely amazing hard problems and shitty easy problems. wouldnt you like to hear about the good ones, verses a dumb number?

I agree with metoliusmunchkin totally. I rate my problems more on the lines of "oh that one looks cool" I could really care less what I'm climbing, just as long as I'm climbing.

I usually stay around V3. I do have to say though I've never seen so many V8 climbers period. I know ratings differ from rock to rock and gym to gym, but I guess there are just a bunch of elite guys in here.

It doesn't count if it's in the gym. I sent a problem at an ABS comp (after a few tries) that was supposed to be V7 or 8, when really it was closer to a hard 3 or easy 4. I'm only going based on what I've done outdoors, but V8 is fairly hard. It's out of my league for a while, and I know that most climbers on this site have not pushed that far yet.

Yes, I agree completely with the fact that in most cases outdoor rock climbing, is much harder than indoor gym climbing. This goes simply because of the fact that while gym climbing, all holds are apparant, and can be found with ease (seeing as they are mostly multi-coloured). As when you are climbing outdoors, all of the holds are hidden, immersed within the rock. This causes it to be much more difficult.

I hardly ever see ratings indoors that are true to outside. A big reason for this is because a majority of the number chasers are indoor climbers, not outdoor. So if you think about it, the rating scale was developed from an outdoor setting. I think that when it comes down to it, most of the "hard climbers" on this site, are blessed with the fact that they are located behind a keyboard, and not the no footed sit start off of two sloppers outdoors. But that is just me. Everytime I walk into a gym, I will look around at their "hardest" problem(s) then jump on them. That will tell me where there setters stand, if they are quality or not. I think that everyone should have two goals for climbing; be safe and have fun. Not a goal of I am going to become a 5.15 climber, because you know what, it probably wont happen for you. Or me for that matter.
