I would like to see pics of everybody's tent, just to see how some people spend their nights, because I am sure most are more comfortable than me. http://members.cox.net/alexbuck/tent.jpg

Nice idea. I dont have a tent yet, actually I am considering to buy one. My search has got me to two options, Kelty Vortex 2 and MountainHardware Light Wedge 2. Hopefully someone has tried both and can tell me wich one is better. Basically Iam looking for a long tent (both are 92 inches long) because I hate to have my head all weat in the morning, I am tall enough to touch the inside with head/feet. So, can anyone help me? Sugest another tent? Any of these two?

http://www.shelter-systems.com/images/Kid-tents.jpg It doesn't look like much, but I've used it on the Czech Direct on McKinley, the Kangshung Face of Everest, and for an overnight during my batchelor party when 24 guys wanted to puke on me.

Kelty: utter crap Mountain Hardware: pretty good but way overpriced. To explain: having used Kelty tents (and quite a few other brands, my favorite thus far being Moss (now MSR), although Mountain Hardware does make a bomber 4-season tent) I've noticed that their manufacturing and designs are pretty sub-par. For what its worth, you can get an REI Half Dome +2 for cheaper than the Vortex 2 and its essentially the same tent, with better quality overall. That is to say, living in Wyoming one wants a pretty sturdy tent that won't blow down in a mild breeze. I'd never seen tent poles break until I took my Kelty up here for the first (and last) time. I have a Walrus Rapede XV, which is sadly no longer made, otherwise I'd provide you with a picture. I've heard that REI bought the design but have seen nothing to confirm or deny it. A lot stronger than my old Kelty *shudders* I'll give you that.

For 90% of my backpacking I use my Walrus Warp2. It's held up well for 25 seasons 8) For guaranteed good weather solo trips I use a Eureka Timberlite XT 2 person. Cheap and light. Too small for 2 peeps but plenty roomy for one. With anything more than a gentle breeze the Timberlite makes more noise than a 20 foot flag in a full gale. I'm not hardcore enough to put $$$ into a Mountain Hardware, Moss, or Bibler......but I would if I was.

Kelty is so not crap...overpriced, perhaps, but the quality is totally there. Me: Kelty Zen 2(HAH!) person tent. 2 if you're intimate, maybe... http://www.mikesphotos.ca/kelty.jpg Mike...

In reply to: That's pretty good TD. You a fast and light kind of guy? Fast, I doubt anyone would consider my hiking style fast  But i have been lighteneing up my pack. My wife and I have tarped it for a while now. Just decided to do a Sil Nylon tarp what met my specs over the store bought heavier one I used to carry. It's larger and lighter and has the rain beak. Also over the winter I realized what I actually use and how I use it. Made an 800+ fill down quilt, the tarp, a cat food stove, and a bunch of stuff sacs. I have at home now the materials for a 4400 cubic inch pack, that should weigh out to about 12 oz or so. I might actually make it smaller than the pattern since all my gear takes up less room than that. Might as well work on gear when it's either snowing or raining out. As you know jan, I've therefore had a lot of time to sew. TD

I have the same tent as you, but most times I sleep on top of it. It's easier to sneak into camp 4 and not get cited if you don't put up a tent. But as for snowy times in yosemite, I use either a North Face VE-24, or VE-25, although I have made snow caves and slept in, on, and under my trusty blue tarp from Orchard Supply & Hardware. The 25 was free, TNF was supposed to fix the zipper in the 24, but they kept it for a year and didn't do shit, so they sent us the 25 so we wouldn't be as pissed and the 24, but still didn't fix it.
