How does a FA get into the books?

I mean so say some guy goes to some crag and puts up some line no one else has...he puts in top anchors or bolted pro...and he climbs it redpoint and name it...is that all thats required...not all of that is required...and the book people find out how?

Draw a topo or write info, send it to the guidebook author(s) to the area. If there is no guidebook, consider the American Alpine Journal (depending on the caliber of the climb) or writing your own.

Normally someone writing a guidebook will try to get the information. Truth is, it usually isn't that hard, if you ask local climbers at the area, or the local shops who climbs there and who develops there. I think lots of times too the person writing the guide has done lots of FAs themselves, and tend to know the area and other climbers putting up routes.

also many times the FAer actually knows the writer of the guidebook...i climb with him in my FA cases...
