Does anyone know what ever became of Fred Beckey's brother Helmy?
He is listed with Fred on many of his FA's.
But after the forties I can find no mention of him.
If I ever get to meet the illustrious Fred Beckey, after I say "THANK YOU!", it will be the first question I'll ask him.

Jeff

After much research, I can find no mention of him either. Someone find FRED and ask him. Oh you can't find FRED? He must be out climbing some unknown peak somewhere in the world!!!

So then, have I stumped the panel? What do I win Don Pardo? A sticker? A patch?

YOU HAVE WONNNNNN . . . an all expenses-paid trip to your local crag, courtesy of HighLimer International. You and a friend will travel in high/fine style to the route of your choice. There you will enjoy the relaxing benefits of one of the world's greatest activities: ROCKCLIMBING! Finger, hand, fist and offwidth; all of these await you and your companion as you sample the best that God's Great Universe has to offer mere mortals. And later, when you're pumped and punished from a fine day's outing, you and your partner will ride in an automobile to one of the area's premier watering holes: THE BOAR HOUSE! There you'll be able to trade shots with the locals, with a rare chance at riding the glass all the way to the floor. Modern alpinism in the setting of the Old West. You get all of this, courtesy of HighLimer International. Johnny?....

Cool, I'm all packed and waiting by the door. What time does my ride get here?

And the watering hole is called "The Bush House", for real, even I wouldn't make that one up!

Jeff-
Since you live in Seattle, you can probably meet Fred on Tuesdays at the cc.com "We are drinking now Pub Club".

The truth is that Helmy moved back to Germany, where he lives now. He and Fred do not get along well.

On other interesting side notes, Fred totalled his friend's truck two weekends ago or so and CRUSHED the steering wheel with his chest. He is fine though and still working on the revision of his last "Beckey book" that hasn't been reprinted yet.

Holly, you Angel,

Thank you for the answer to my question!

It is bittersweet news to me, I am so glad to hear that he is still alive (not frozen in some God forsaken place, though I know one doesn't exist), but also so deeply saddened to hear that they are not best friends... and after a very long time have not mended the rift.

But having not seen my brother in almost ten years, due mostly to a falling out, I may understand. But I know what a hole that kind of thing leaves in ones life... And along with my thanks I will offer my condolences!

I can't wait 'til I get the opportunity to meet him, I hope I don't act like a teenage girl meeting the Back Sreet Boys!

Jeff
