Chaps
after taking delivery of some new Cam Hooks (god bless mister Leeper)i was presented with the problem of how to sling the blighters. at the moment i've attached them the same as my hooks (overhand knot on top/outside) does anyone know if this is correct or know of the BETTER WAY!

leeper has a small four page manual covering all his products and recommends a water knot, but i see no problem with the overhand, i mean your inspecting the thing everytime you use it, beings it is sitting in front of your face

Both ends go through the eye hole of the hook...just as you would any other standard hook. At least that's how I do mine and they work great. One note of caution though...You do need to check the webbing for abrasion every now and then because it will scrape against the rock a bit when the hook is camming in a vertical crack.

Leepin Lizards! Anyone using these things must be NUTS! Not really. I love'em. My first suggestion is sling them with a piece of 9/16" webbing. I've used 1/2", and I've abraded thru it in a couple pitches of hooking. The second thing you can do is wrap a wee bit of duct tape around the sling where it gets pinched 'tween the rock and hook. It helps for awhile. Gook hooking

That's funny...I did the exact same thing. Mine are currently tied with 1/2" webbing and duct taped. You're right!...it's just a bit too thick. I keep meaning to redo them.

I actually like to sling the cams hooks just the opposite of normal hooks. Leave the knot on the inside, wedged into the concave part. You get an extra inch of reach when stepping high. Bad idea on regular hooks for obvious reasons.
9/16" super tape fer me, with a short 2" loop.

Lucy, you better start splainin youself! Sexton, WHAT? Sorry dude that last post made no sense to this old leeper lover. You are talking about placing your Leeper in a VERTICAL crack, aren't you? They do work to "hook" horizontal placements, like a flake, but that isn't the intended usage. In fact that might be risky, since it could slide right off. Otherwise

Gotta love them cam hooks.
Sling like a regular hook with a short, short, %$#@! short 1/2" sling. Don't give away that height! Leave 3/4" to 1" tails above your overhand knot.
A tad of duct tape to pad the sling is trick.
Some people like to swage them with cable. I tried it and didn't like it. First, the loop was too long (rivet hanger length). Second, the swage kept grabbing the nylon of my aiders when I left the cam hooks on the aiders.
I just keep an eye on them, but even then, a little abrasion isn't the end of the world.

When you sling cam hooks (or any hooks for that matter), put a half twist in the webbing before you tie it. It will tend to keep the loop more open and easier to clip / unclip. Not a big deal, but every little bit helps.
