I'm not sure... but isn't there a 15,000 foot peak in California? Maybe Shasta or Whitney or something. I might be wrong. Anyhow, good luck on all your adventures.

According to the NPS website, Mt. Whitney is the tallest in the lower 48 at 14,491. Maybe you will have to add this to your tic-list?

There are a couple of lower-48 peaks higher than Rainier, but he might have meant taller from base, and for all I know it is tallest that way. I'm sure it's taller than Whitney measured from the base. Maybe Elbert too.

I suppose Rainer probably has one of the highest base to top vertical gain in the lower 48.

Re-bolted Hairline on Mt. Whitney this summer, and it now checks in at V, 5.10 C2F. A topo will be available this fall for those interested. Be that as it may, my to-do list for 2005 so far involves visiting an area new (to me and my partner) -- Likely the Wind Rivers. Hear there's a lot of good stuff up in there. Might drop by Devil's Tower when we're out that way, and re-visit City of Rocks enroute from Ca. That, and completing routes in at least three secret areas of the Sierra where I have things going on. I think Rainier's height claim to fame is that it is the tallest volcano in the continental U.S. My tick list for next summer includes a number of peaks in SW B.C. or NW Washington: Mt. Vayu Hozomeen Bardean Wedge one of the Twin Sisters My tick list for this winter is pretty small: Garibaldi Whitecap I'd love to get into the Bugaboos or the Selkirks, but don't know how much time I'll be able to take off. Good luck with your list.

I'm hoping to get to Valdez a couple of times this winter and hopefully to the ice farther up eagle river valley, past echo bend. Hopefully get a chance to go to the Adirondacks around Christmas time and climb at Chapel Pond. That is were I did my first climb but shortly there after I moved to Alaska. I would like to go back and see what I can do. Nice Pics of the mountains in Eagle River!!!

In reply to: -Petit Dru - American Direct -Grand Capucin - Capucin direct with Bonatti finish -Grand Jorasses - A winter ascent of north face would be nice, loads of rocks falling during summer Quite a good list. But I don't really list peaks, routes are more fun. Well... some inaccessible towers with no "easy" way up could be listed perhaps.

Funny how you started this thread...I want to get back up to Alaska in the next couple years and do Cantata-Calliope-Eagle Peaks. I was standing on the saddle between Eagle and Symphony lakes a couple years ago when I decided that I WAS going to be a climber someday. Hiking is fun, but I wanted to stand on top and look down, not just look up all the time. Where'd you get your pics?

I know exactly what you mean dude, I literally had the same thing happen to me at the same location. I hiked to the Flute Glacier via Eagle and Symphony Lakes and camped in that land bridge between the two. I now want to climb Cantana and Eagle as well. Here are some pics from that trip including both of those mountains, I urge you to check them out. http://community.webshots.com/album/184426401DILAOB
