it is obvious that there is no middle ground on the subject of ivan greene. i've taken my stance and i stand by it. i have nothing against him for being a strong climber or boulderer. i enjoy bouldering myself but i also enjoy trad and sport routes. i am not jealous of his skills at all. i know i am not nearly as strong as him, but that doesn't affect my opinion of him. he's milking his success in climbing for all it's worth and it's giving climbing a bad name/reputation. .......and it's kinda funny reading your reactions, please keep posting

It constantly amazes me that the people who object to the like of Ivan Greene are the same people who do half of his advertising for him. If you really have an issue with the way he does things, your only offense is to ignore him completely. Way to be goodwholesomeboy. You are my new social conscience. :? Sarcasm :?

milking.. DUHH so are sharma, graham, lynn hill, lisa rands, oh wait.. and other sports folk Jordan, shaq, kobe, Bonds, Sosa, Nomar, Pedro, tom brady, marshall faulk, Moss, ETC ETC what makes a professional climber any different than any other professional athlete? you're not playing in the NBA and can dunk without jumping but you're not ragging on Shaq for being in a million commercials and marketing his own shoes and clothes and music are you?? your argument is weak and Red Bull thanks you for promoting their product and increasing their website hits today

Yep, that's right folks. Ivan Greene is helping climbing. Infact, he's making it better. The first thing we need is that showboating yuppie to influence young climbers. I'm hopeful they will get the new josh lowell video Dosage Vol. 2 and see what I saw. His entire section is littered with shameless self promotion and advertisement! I don't think there was one point in his section that he wasn't wearing something that didn't have the "red bull" logo. Oh wait, he did actually, but he was wearing a belt buckle that had his name on it and later had a red bull in his hand. I wonder how big of a check red bull gave him for all this "great" promotion. Not only does he try and promote red bull in this video, but he also has a "mock" photo shoot. During the photo shoot he has two girls walking around wearing (suprise!) his new clothing line. Incase you haven't seen his new clothing line it consist of tshirts that say "climbing" and short shorts (for the ladies) that have his logo on the ass. I wonder where he got this idea of putting his dumb logo on the ass of a hot girl to make it look good(go to your local mall and see if it looks familiar). With all of this new found fame that he has, it's a great time for him to try and launch his new singing career..... which he does. He is affecting all climbing in a positive way!!!

I wouldnt really call Jordan, Bonds, Sosa, Shaq or kobe milking it...They dont have to "Milk" it...They do it because its just more cash for them. I dont think Ivan can say the same thing. I am sure he is doing it because there is cash involved and he is going to take advantage of it as long and for as much as he can. Like coming up with some lame ass record or pasting tidbits on the back of a hot chicks ass...I dont recall Sharma starting his own lame ass record label or trying to start a nudy bar or anything lame....they, being the sponsors I am sure come running to him. I would say Ivan probably has to run to the majority of his.

I'm going to have to agree. I'm sure the hes a good guy and all. But he portrays everthing that I think climbing is nothing about (I dont know if that made any sense). If there was a bunch of little sh!~$ like him runing around our beautiful crags, I have a fealling they might get a little thrashed. What are we a bunch of dirt-bikers or something?

http://www.redbullusa.com/...phen_scott_gross.jpg I Been Der! :D i have no strong opinion either way. the guys put up a ton of new problems, and he cranks hard. what motivates a person to climb is purely up to them. credit: the pic is from the redbull gallery http://www.redbullusa.com/gallery.action?documentIntID=1070998457141-82667624

Meh... I agree that Ivan Green's actions seem really shallow, sometimes even stupid, and he caters to a totally different crowd than your typical climber... but ruin climbing? No way! He's never had an effect on my climbing whatsoever, and unless I actually meet the guy and climb with him (and yes, I would), chances are he never will. :)

If Ivan Greene was the recipient of any more projections he could double as a drive-in movie screen. Ivan Green is us--simple as that. JL

Mr. Climbingbums: You are the wanker of the day. Who the hell cares how hard anybody climbs??? Do I have to climb hard for my opinion to matter?? I wouldn't be so hard on you, but holy crap. Quit being such a tool.

Ivan who? Who cares. He's never effected my climbing. At least he's doing what makes him happy. There's an old saying that goes something like this: "MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!"...I tend to worry about myself and my climbing partner(s). Other than that...live and let live. Anyway, referring to the Red Bull quote...I'm only 5/100's of a point away from the hardest rating!!!...so close ha, ha.

What a pathetic, purile display of jealosy of someone (Ivan) who's making a living doing something he loves, throws down HARD (Illustrious Budah ring a bell?), and manages to look cool enough to get the hottest chicks this side of the skin mags. In case you haven't noticed, EVERY professional athlete is a walking billboard for some sponsor's product. I don't hear you griping about your favorite baseball/basketball/football/whatever player doing what Ivan's doing. How many of them have had the balls and imagination not only to start their own company, but to design and market their own product? If you posted your rant about a Nascar driver you'd be laughed off as a jerk. While you're stuck in your rut job, hobbled with a mortgage and your fat ugly wife you can think of Ivan living the life most of us will only dream of. By the way, what was the last time you: A) Put up a ground breaking, world class boulder problem? B) Started your own successful company? C) Was good enough to attract national sponsorship? D) Stared in a music video? E) Had a super-model girlfriend? And for the record I am neither A) a yuppie B) Ivan's mother C) especially a fan of his; just someone who recoginzes excellence when he sees it and is not threatened by it.
