Airport Security and Chalk

I'm going to the Virgin Islands on Monday and want to do some bouldering on Virgin Gorda. It's hot so I want to bring chalk but I am concerned that my baggage will be confiscated, or that my family will be held up at security. How do they know it's not cocain?

Has anyone been stopped? Does anyone know anything about this?

typically they will lay all bags out in a room and let the hounds sniff them out and wont confront you unless the dogs think you are suspicous.

you should be A-ok

This is hilarious!

I laughed out loud when I read it!
Seriously though - make sure you aren't wearing a leather suit! Expensive jwellery probably not a good idea either. Oh and make sure if you have a cold not to sniffle too much while they're interagatating you!
Sorry, I couldn't help it

Have a great trip ~
I'm sure it won't be a problem!

They can tell if it is chalk or cola by cutting up a phat line on a mirror and blowing it.

It would be funny if they did blow it. Although I dont think Magnesium Carbonate is very good for you.

You had better watch the movie "Midnight Express" before trying to return from the Virgin Islands with anything resembling coke.

I actually left Colombia for the United States with a big fat rock of chalk in my pack last summer. Not a problem;) I was kindof worried about it, but then again, it wouldn't have been the first time that I have been detained and strip searched in latin-america for suspicion of smuggling. And no, I wasn't smuggling... ever.

Just don't be nervous. It's not hard to prove what it is, and if they want to confiscate it, who cares? It's not worth the hassle. The best thing I think is to include it in its original packaging, and be ready to open it for them. Maybe demonstrate its use by buildering inside the terminal?!
