Aparently the sea salt and humidity of thiland kills your gear pretty fast. my friend who spent 4 months ther a few years ago suggested bringing your oldest draws, harness and rope and just leaveing all the gear over there when you leave. He had a brand new harness and when he got back in april it looked like it was 10 yrs old.

It's pretty standard practice to rinse off scuba gear with fresh water after a day of diving - perhaps you could do the same with climbing gear while you are there (maybe soak it once a week)?

ya corrosion and tarnish, the only parts that are shiny now are at the places where the rope was running over the biner. same thing i guess that making all the bolt rusty down there, just corrosive air. i heard people say they could get clean again. thanks fellas

I've been over there a few times and it's hard to get stuff clean. I cleaned my stuff with water and soap. I didn't really care, cause I only took old stuff. I don't think that the sea salt weakens the biners. I may be wrong, but the only thing I can see hurting you with your biners is the gates sticking. Anyway, Hope you had a rad time!
