Hey Yall, I've been in multiple NFL and NBA fantasy leagues, and had a ton of fun, and I read a post earlier that mentioned that we should form one for climbing. I figured we could start with bouldering, and then get some others for other types of climbing. Well here goes. What type of rules should we have? How can we score points, and how and when should we organize to "draft" our climbers. I think that that 8a.nu site should be a good resource to help. I appreciate your input. This could be a fun. DTT

The scoring should be based on how the climber placed in the competition, not on the points they scored, as every comp scores a little differently.

Good Idea, but I think it should also be based on problems that are sent outdoors, (cuz thats where its at) and the best guys aren't really in that many comps. So like, if I had Sharma, I'd get 1000 points after he sent "Witness the Fitness" given its like V15+ or something, and if you had Nicole, you would get 900 points for a V-14 send. Repeats would be worth like 2/3rds of a first send. Something like that anyway. We need more help here. DTT

if you keep going you'll end up doing the 8a.nu thing. V11/8A=1000points and so forth.

If my earlier post led to this, then I am sorry to all. I thought that the sarchasm would be noted, and not anticipate this debacle. And yes, I was also being sarchastic about the rock climbing trading cards. But... whatever floats your boat... BB

C'Mon all. We need some more positive energy from folks to get this thing going. If it helps, I can go ahead and take the first pick (definately Sharma). And we'll just start fresh from today. 0 points. Anyone else In? If need be, we can establish more point rules, actually, we need to... so keep posting please. Need more support. DTT

hahahaha, climbers care more about climbing then 'fantasy leagues'... personally I could care less about sends from people other then my climbing buddies and myself.. sorry to burst your bubble, but its hard enough to get climbers together to CLIMB, let alone spend that much time participating in something 'fantasy' ;) fantasy and climbing only go together when your fantasizing about climibng..

OK Fiend, Good Question. I realize that I haven't done a good job explainaing this. Maybe that is why there is no interest. So, the first league I was in was Fantasy Football. At the beginning of the season, we had ten guys put $100 in a pot. Each person(in drawn order) selected an NFL football player, from any team. After multiple rounds, each person had a team of players that they "drafted". Each week, one guy competed against another, by totaling the stats from his "drafted" players against the other guys. the overall point winner at the end of the season won the $1,000. To translate that into my bouldering league, say I got Sharma, and Litz, and you got Dai (dude from Japan) and Graham. Now, if in a month Sharma sends another V16, and Litz repeats a V-15, then we'll say , for example, I get 100 points. And if Dai and Graham each only repeat v14's then you maight get 75 points. I would win. Hope that helps Climb on...

Huh. Having money involved makes this more interesting... although not enough to attract me. Don't you think it would be hard to keep track of climbers stats? Most of of the top climbers out there don't rate their new problems immediately and there's no reliable source of info for their stats each year. If you were to use the magazines then all the info you're getting is generally at least three months old. Interesting idea. Hope it works out for you.

In reply to:  You guys are kidding right? You're not? Aww s---... Unfortunately, I don't think that they are. You should be having fantasies about what you are going to climb, not someone else.

In reply to: Huh. Having money involved makes this more interesting... although not enough to attract me. "Hey yo Sharma, you don't know me, but ummm, could you go send a few more hard problems because you're falling behind in my Fantasy League comp. Yeah, Dai just sent another 8C+, so I'm going to be down $20 if you don't come through with something before the end of the month. Oh yeah also, Fred's getting pretty close on his proj, so it might be a good idea to fly over and bust a few holds off that one. Yeah. Cool? Hello? Sharm? ... Dawg?"
