The downside for Ship is it may be pretty cold. Most of the routes don't get sun until the afternoon.

The point of this thread was where to climb for the weekend, not where to climb at 3pm on Sunday.

Too bad none of us told Melissa about the dump. Doh. It may not have much trad, but it's defiinitely a warmer alternative.

Yea, the dump was pretty good in the morning. But Morphine Endorphine may have been a hard lead for the 5.7 trad leader out there.

Are there any other trad lines out there I'm not thinking of? There used to be a 5.10 someting trad line until the flakes all broke off way before my time. Now it's a bolted 11. There's another wall that I don't think has anything established on it- maybe one line but it won't take gear and isn't bolted yet.

Alas, if Boone had conistent weather over a whole weekend... then maybe fat man Ray could get it right this year.

Hey... unfortunatly we didnt get to climb at all on our trip... the first few days were rainy so we just went to linville falls and hiked around a bit and went on some trails off the overlook parking spots on the blueridge parkway... it was fun... then sunday we got up early and went to ship and hiked to the base of the upper tier... again we were unfortunate with the weather because the wind was blowing at least 35 mph and although it was 39 degrees it was the wind that killed me... but I hope to climb in NC soon...in the fall i will be at ETSU and plan on climbing every weekend in NC>.. hope to meet up with some of you then... thanks for everyything

Shame you didn't get to climb!!! Sounds like you got in some great site-seeing though. I climbed on Sunday at another 'winter trad crag' in NC, and we were just dandy. Guess it all depends on what the wind was doing (it was a bit chilly, but hey, makes for quite the adventure).

Good luck with your NC exploration!
