I'm a beginner here. I'd like to know what's the main purpose of wearing leg loops? Can we climb just with the waist belt but without leg loops?

If you like your ribs and breathing and stuff, go with the leg loops.

Funny you should ask.... I've a nice Swami for sale and if you act now it comes with a pair of EB's and a whole set of steel-ovals. One question... why is this in Injuries & Accidents?!?

incase of the fall, with out the loop you might slide out.. thats one fo the reasons. second is so you can "seat" in your harnes.. and so on, and so on.. confort and safety, in general

In reply to: incase of the fall, with out the loop you might slide out.. thats one fo the reasons. second is so you can "seat" in your harnes.. and so on, and so on.. confort and safety, in general no. you cannot 'slide out' of a swami belt... the biggest reason for leg loops is that in the event of a fall on overhanging terrain where the climber cannot unweight the harness quickly, there is the high possibility of suffocation due to the swami creeping up and cutting off your ability to breathe. with leg loops, the swami cannot creep, thus negating this possibility. there is also a comfort issue with hanging belays. basically, if you're going to spend much time weighting the rope (falling, rappelling, lowering, etc), swami's arent so good for a harness.

Make sure you get a good fit on your leg loops. I had mine too loose on my first lead fall, and the right one cinched up onto my nuts. That hurt.

But if I did I would make darn sure I did it right. Cause now instead of just lookng mean, you look mean and stupid.... btw harness is spelt with two s's
