So in recorded history, there have only been 264 Popes that died? And in recorded history, how many climbers have died? More, you say? Wow... Safer to be a Pope.

In reply to: What's with all the early popes being saints? Forget that, the third Pope is also named Cletus. Wonder if he was from down south? 8^)

48. St. Felix III (II) 483 492 Looks like there was a pope who couldn't count or was it a counting problem? "Let's see should I be Felix the second or Felix the third. Hmmm. Felix the third has a better ring to it; conveys power and majesty.” “But your eminence there has only been one other Felix?” “Felix the third I shall be, now off with your head.”

In reply to: 48. St. Felix III (II) 483 492 Looks like there was a pope who couldn't count or was it a counting problem? "Let's see should I be Felix the second or Felix the third. Hmmm. Felix the third has a better ring to it; conveys power and majesty.” “But your eminence there has only been one other Felix?” “Felix the third I shall be, now off with your head.” I'm thinking this: "I shall be Felix the Third!" "But, your Eminence, The last Felix was the third Felix." "Then I shall be the Second Felix the Third!"

I'm bored, so I'm trying to figure out this name thing. I have stumbled across that this Felix III (II) was a widower when he became pope. And he had two kids. I'd known that preist used to be able to be married, but I don't know when this changed. linkhttp://marriage.about.com/...s/marriedpopes_3.htm Looks like there were only two married popes though.

In reply to: Felix addressed the issue of readmitting to the church those whom Arians had forcibly rebaptized: lay people were allowed back after penance, and clergy were allowed back only on their deathbed. I was right about the "Off with your head." link http://www2.evansville.edu/...ossary/felixiii.html

A HA!
In reply to: 36. Liberius 352 366 37. St. Damasus I 366 383 Polarwid is misleading us. It seems he did not include theANTIPOPE. That's right folks, like matter and anitmatter, there are popes and antipopes. One destroys the other, well not really the case for popes. Anyway. There was Felix II who was an ANTIPOPE, placed to the church during Liberius' reign by Emperor Constantius. The people wanted Liberius back and eventually the emperor allowed both popes to rule together. Well that didn't last long. Whew, it looks like my day is done.

not to nitpick, but it would actually be: Felix the second third. Well, maybe Felix the third, the second might work, but I think mine is more grammatically correct or something.
