before I became really interested in climbing, I had the opportunity to climb in Wyoming, Utah, and Hueco Tanks, TX. figures that my interest didn't kick in until I came back to OHIO...

which leads me to the point of this post: now that I am forced to deal with what is available to me, what are some good indoor gyms to go to in the SouthWest area of Ohio? a few are listed on this site, but I would like to hear the personal opinions of climbing Ohioans

also, what is the scene like at Red River Gorge? is it a good place for beginners to get some practice with real rock (on easier routes, of course)?

thanks :)
~Laura

[what the hell is Ohio?]

but seriously, i'd PM stonefoxgirl and see if you can hook up some beta or a partner. and keep an eye out for an Asian looking character named Pete, he could be roaming Ohio these days.

Don't worry you will survive. There are two gyms in Cincinnati. Climbtime is all bouldering and Rockquest is routes. Both are nice.

You are two hours from the Red River Gorge and it is a wonderful place.

go to www.redriverclimbing.com that will get you started

I know that there's a pretty strong Ohio crowd that make their way down to the NRG on weekends, too. You'll be aight! Just gotta make those weekend trips a priority!

Hey there Laura. I live in Cincinnati (right by UC), and my girlfriend and I regularly climb at Rockquest. Check out rates and times @ http://www.rockquest.com. It's a nice place with a good staff and a cool crowd. I've not been to Climb-time, but as was stated above, it's pretty much all bouldering. You can call them @ 513-891-4850. The gorge is awesome, though I've only been down there once, so I can't say much about it.

PM me if you want to, we are usually at RockQuest every Tues and Thurs night, and once or twice on the weekends.

-Jonny

Edit: I guess Climb-time does have a website.

HEyyyy,
We can always use more ohio people! Anyway, the web site for Climb Time is www.CTOC.com, and as was stated earlier: you can't beat red river gorge ... plenty of easy stuff to climb and a great atmosphere!!

Nobody inserted any belittling remarks for you. I will! Ohio has very little outdoor climbing. That's darn belittling. And the people are kinda xenophobic, and the public transportation blows.

But we have good Indian food.

If you can get a partner for a couple of hours, Rockquest is it. They have great routes. I have climbed in a lot of gyms, and I have to say this is one of the two really great gyms I've visited. I'm always there on Wednesdays after about 7 -- and Sundays whenever, if I can't get outside.

Climb Time, which seems to let any 13-year-old set routes, still manages to have some fun & interesting bouldering. I go there when I can't find a partner.

Outdoors IN OHIO (!!) I go to John Bryant whenever anybody wants to go -- it has only about 10 routes, but that's more than we can do in an afternoon, and most of the routes, though short, are challenging for me. Seems like they have two 5.6s and eight 5.10+s. John Bryant is near Yellow Springs, only about 45 miles from Cincinnati. I also have friends that MIGHT sneak into Springfield -- technically closed to climbers -- but so far they haven't taken me so I can't share the beta. Ooh, and if they ever DO take me I maybe shouldn't share it anyway. *pout*
