http://www.rockclimbing.com/...p.cgi?Detailed=61093 you remeber the assignment where you had to frame the climber unsing natural stuff?? well this one is framed on one side by a tree and i decided not to crop it. it wasnt taken specifically for the assignment so it doesnt really count. anyway, any criticizm is welcome. the angle is the best i could find at the moment.

Cool photo! Those are a couple of interesting 'quickdraws'...are they fixed, or what's the story behind them?

those are kinda "semi fixed" qds. they have a quicklink on the bolt end and a biner on rope end. the guy who made them usually moves them from project to project. they may look manky, but theyre not. thats an 11mm static cord with double fishermans and most have ends taped (like the one on the bottom left).

Though I like a lot the talent's attitude/position (looks cool and fun) - taken at a good instant, i don't like the framing personally. In this case a center framing of talent doesn't do it for me. The tree doesn't frame the photo in a way that makes me feel it's intended as a nice frame. See the assngt pics: some of the framings are like Wow! that makes the perspective more so enjoyable by providing an extra clue on the point of view (ex: the tents or the shot from inside the caves). instead the tree feels in the way. I think shot's too tight: Recropping would remove the route's clips from view so it would change the photo's intent (though you might get a nice crop angle). Hmmmm.... this is the photo CRITIQUE group, right? :P

well, thats why its ALMOST a photo assingment photo. that tree just crept into the pic. and i zoomed a bit too much, but if i zoomed out the tree was in the af area and if i had moved to a better spot (wich id have to find first) the object wouldve moved (this was not a staged shoot). the pic isnt cropped. and it was not shot with the framing in mind. i thought about cropping the tree but decided against it (it would make the pic even tighter). and yes, this is the critique group

because of the tree, the image has a candid photograph feeling :) it is a 13b, i am sure you can find a better spot which will make the route does not look like a 5.8 warmup

Don't worry, I don't think it looks like a 5.8 warm up. Just look at the draws and the chalk bag to see the angle. Not many 5.8 would be that overhung. Eman
