Emily, you are fortunate to live in such a cool place. I spent ten days in the Grampians a while back and had a blast. The rock was bomber, but Katoomba made the Blue Mountains a little more of a social atmosphere. Either way, I can't say one was better for climbing then the other. Had a great time...oh, and Blackheath was kinda cool too I stayed for a few days out at Mt. Stapleton and then headed over to 'Black Rock?' Is that right, or is my memory fading already? Passport to Insanity was wicked!!! I don't think I have ever climbed a "decending" roof crack of that magnitude. Bomber gear, bomber rock. Damn, I need to check out how many frequent flier miles I got...I'm ready to head back down under. Sorry, I'm totally "off post" here. Nostalgia is a bad thing!!!

Yeah, we've got it good here in Australia... great rock, great people, GREAT CLIMBING! Did you get a chance to climb at The Gallery in the Grampians? It's a sport crag, which I usually don't get too carried away with, but excellent climbing on harder routes. I continue to have my mind blown every time I head out there (the Grampians). And Mt. Arapiles isn't to be laughed at either.

I fell off the route Hot Rocks in Joshua Tree a few years back. I took about a 20 footer and landed a half foot from the ground. I don't know if I would have died, but it was thrilling. In Yosemite, a party on Bad to the Bone knocked off a 6 foot by 6 foot piece of granite while I was on the lower pitches of Eagles Way. I remember looking up and seeing the thing in a flat spin directly above. It hit some slabs above, exploded, and shattered me with rock. I definitely thought I was dead on that one!
