I have yet to see a new ice tool on the market this season. None from BD, Charlet, Grivel... What's up? I sold my Vipers this summer in hopes of getting something new...now what another pair of Vipers? Quarks?

Well... there ARE some new tools: Petzl came out with the Nomic (with a quite radical look), DMM are getting again on the marking with the new Anarchist which looks like the Quark Ergo but with a very interesting shaft, BD are filling a hole in their range of products with Venom (120% versatile, they claim). Camp also have modified the Awax to be more fit for "sans-dragonnes". As most of the firms are from Europe, it might take a while till the new toys will come out on the US market, but I think it worth waiting.

wow that Cryo tool from e-climb looks sweet! You could pretend you were climbing leashless and impress the chicks, all the while being clipped in! I still have a hard time commiting to anything but a BD or Charlet tool though. Is this Petzls first run of ice tools? I thought they owned Charlet...

Kim, Later in the season, BD will release the Venom Hammer which will feature a more technical pick. That pick will fit the Venom Adze as well.

Are they going to continue to keep the petzl and charlet brands seperate or will there be a combination. It seems as if Petzl are marketing a seperate line of tools but what is the rationale behind that? Surely they use the same r & d group. Im in the market for new tools and will probably stay with a Black Diamond or Charlet product although the "e" tools look appetizing. Has Stubai come out with anything in a while? I found some old Stubai tools of mine (Purply/Pink) and where shocked at how much they weighed. I think at one point I honestly thought they where light.I went from these to Black Prophets which Ive had for 10+ years. Time for an upgrade?

Charlet Moser has been bought by Petzl many years ago and it's now fully integrated within Petzl. So, Petzl or Charlet, it's all the same. They just keep the Charlet name for marketing. e_wire

I talked to a CM Petzl rep. The Nomic is suppose to be the new and improved Ergo. The Ergo will continue to be sold until the Nomic is established in the market and then it will be fazed out and the Nomic will replace it. I've been wanting to try leashless waterfall ice so i think I'm gonna give these a shot. Sign up soon if you want a set. Petzl is only importing 100 pairs into the US this season. Jedi

In reply to: What's that have to do with ice tools? Nothing. He's spewing the same stupid line in several threads... ignore him is my advice.
