Hi, I may be heading down to the Mobile area for about 3 weeks in mid-October--Is there any climbing within say, an hour or two driving? If not, is there a good gym in Mobile that folks can recommend? I've never been down that way, and would appreciate any info--thanks!

Southern AL is pretty flat. Hard for me to imagine a gym there but i haven't been if 15 years. Pretty sure they haven't grown any rock, but a gym you never know.

Slim Pickens. There are a few boulders near Montgomery. I think there is a gym in Mobile. There is real rock up northeast near Gadsen, even better rock in Chatanooga and great rock in NC.

In reply to:    TRY THE ROUTES INDEX    ...to learn there ain't sh*t!! :D:D Most LA folks (that's lower alabama to the uninitiated) climb in the gym down there and make the 5-hour weekend trek up to NE AL, where you can find very good sport and trad (up to 2-pitch+) and world-class bouldering (HP40) on some of the best sandstone in the world. Just get ready to travel to get to it! The stuff near Montogomery and Auburn, FWIW, is 3-4 hours from you and it would be worth the extra drive to keep going to the better stuff. Those areas are okay if you live near there, but they're not destinations like NE AL and the Chattanooga area offer.
