After 2 months at college I'm seriously considering putting up my hangboard. The only plausible place to put it in my dorm is on these concrete rafters that extend about 1' beneath the ceiling. But first I have a few questions: 1) can I just use some sort of adhesive on the back of the board or the attached piece of plywood? Is there an easy way to detach the hangboard from rafters when I have to leave? 2) if I decide to screw it in instead, what sort of materials should I use?

I'd have to take a look at the board to answer that. Mail it to me and I'll get back to you

If it's the hangboard's first time, be gentle. Curt

Hey man....I live in a dorm and just got my board hung up. We have concrete walls in our rooms. I just drilled some holes, but in some lead anchors, and put some screws in. Some of my friends just drilled the screw right into the wall without any anchors. Both systems are working great right now. However, I would not recommend any adhesives...they are prob. not strong enough.

Check out your hardware store and look for concrete screws. Around here they are tapcons. You might want to rent a hammer drill to make your life easier. Or a regular drill will work if you are patient. Good luck. Lance

If you are drilling into the walls in your dorm, I'm going to assume you're willing to pay whatever fee they charge you?

I'd go with the screws. Tapcons work well. Construction adhesive, though strong enuf, will give you problems with removal, not to mention mess upon getting the board off finally. I've put holes in dorm walls for similar purposes. Get some caulk that is close to the wall color to fill the holes with. Saves money and hassel during checkout. happy training

Two Tapcon screws should do it. I covered the holes from a hangboard and about 250 missed dartboards with toothpaste and prolly $15 worth of generic paint. If you are a problem tenant, then you will be treated as such. If, however, you are well respected in your dorm, then you can get away with murder.
