I and some others have noticed lately that some average pics tend to march on up in the ratings apparently due to the fact that it includes a female exposing a bit of flesh... I am not having a whine here about the nature of these shots, they are fine, the site has a strong stance on pornography and I personally have never seen anything that comes close to being offensive in the form of a picture, BUT: I do find that some of the comments that are posted seem to degrade the female subjects and I would not be surprised if the ladies find them a little offensive. I know the 'net attracts a lot of nerdy kids who think that the web is the biggest electric sex toy ever invented, and that they need to tell everyone what their hormones are making them think, but do they have to scream about it here? Am I off base girls or do you find it all a bit tiring and demeaning at times? Adam

If you want a wider audience you should post it in the Ladies Room. The only reason I clicked on it is because it was on the front page. Josh For the record, boys will be boys.

The occasional loser can be annoying sometimes, but most boys here aren't half as bad as the comments on the UrbanClimber site. Kristie

Agreed. I think flattery crosses the line with comments like "saved this one for the spankfile" :D

I very sincerely wish that I could post a revealing pic of myself and get some catcalls on it that weren't sarcastic, and weren't from gay men. I mean, are hairy guys that repulsive? Why can't girls look at my manly hairyness and go "Wow, check out the hair on that guy. He must have loads of testosterone to spare. He looks like he could go all night!" What I don't understand is why you would worry about this dude? I haven't seen any chicks complaining about the comments on THIS site. Unless you are trying to tell all the chicks that you are thinking of them and think it will help you out. If so, and you are being bombed with all sorts of PM's that would be sweet. Let me try: Hey ladies...I was just thinking about how it must be really hard to deal with us assholes always diggin' on you and sh*$. It's gotta suck to be wanted. Your thoughts? Seriously, not trying to rib on you hard, just a funny post. :P

Currently, there is a photo of me in the front-page rotation, and with that photo are many comments expressing attraction. My favorite one so far is "Marry me." So far, I haven't seen anything degrading and if I did, I don't think it would offend me. It certainly wouldn't flatter me, and knowing my wit, I would cut the person down to size with some good repartee. Actually, the comments so far have amused both the photographer and me. The thing is, it's an image, it's not me. I have a line that demands respect, but a humor that stops me from being a prude.

In reply to: I very sincerely wish that I could post a revealing pic of myself and get some catcalls on it that weren't sarcastic, and weren't from gay men. They don't pick the audience, so neither can you. If the issue you have with gay men is receiving unwanted attention of a sexual nature from someone you're not interested in, I guess you'd probably fit in with some of the women around here. I think it's one thing to compliment someone on their looks, and another to state you're going to masturbate to someone's image later (as keinangst mentioned). Many climbers have a bawdy sense of humor, but some comments are close to or over the line. Maybe the posters know each other and have developed a relationship where that's cool, but I don't think that's the case in every instance. I'm not here to defend anyone, I'm just sharing my opinion. If that makes me less macho, I'm perfectly fine with that.

Markc, You misunderstood what I was saying. I do not mind being attractive to gay guys, or even hearing what they think about my hairy back. I am in fact so macho, that doesnot bother me in the least, it's actually good for my self-esteem that if I wanted one, I might actually be able to find one. What I was saying was that it would be nice if someone who was not sarcastic or gay give me that type of comment. NOT that I mind getting one(from a gay dude, you sarcastic people stop making this macho man cry). I can't beliee you got all after-school special on us and turned a funny thread into something serious. Shame on you for being mature!!!!

Hey AJK, checked the pictures you have submitted lately? Are you telling me you didn't think the same thing when you first got a look at the angle of that shot? you know which one I am talking about. If you didn't... Well ... hmmmm  Even my wife laughs at some of the photos. You can't hardly avoid it since many climbing shots are either taken from above to give the nice boob shot, or from below giving the great as$ shot. Might as well appreciate it :D

what's more offensive to my "rock climber" visual sensitivities (although less socially relevant) is the continual procession of crap canon tajo pics on the front page. No mas! oh yeah, on topic: Girls are hot. You suck for posting this (your masculinity should be questioned). Women aren't objects and can defend themselves. Pics are objects that can't defend themselves. Did I miss any other responses?

Markc, I guess I can forgive you. But remember, next time you better bring it down to my level or expect some heated words in response. We're not trying to turn this site into something respectable. You just keep that in mind next time. (These statments are meant to be akin to a stern talking to from a figure of authority.)

In reply to: Hey AJK, checked the pictures you have submitted lately? Yes, I am well aware of the photos that I have posted. Duh! Unfortunately, the knuckle-draggers don't seem to understand that you can actually talk to a female or take their photo regardless of what they are wearing without having to stare like an idiot at their breasts!
In reply to: Are you telling me you didn't think the same thing when you first got a look at the angle of that shot? you know which one I am talking about. If you didn't... Well ... hmmmm  You are right, with photos from above you cannot avoid noticing that a female has breasts, but, why would you be surprised or have to resort to demeaning comments whether explicit (straight to my spank file) or suggestive (mmmm nice 'biners)? And no, it wasn't the first thing I thought, Megan is one of my closest friends and is much more than a set of boobs, as are most women.
In reply to: many climbing shots are either taken from above to give the nice boob shot, or from below giving the great as$ shot. Might as well appreciate it :D You know what? Women have breasts, and they have bums, did it ever occur to you that the photos may have been taken to show the woman who is climbing and not just the parts that someone might want to leer over late at night?
In reply to: Even my wife laughs at some of the photos. Maybe her motivations are different from yours, maybe not. But she has more of a right to laugh than you; you see, although the juveniles who post the sort of thing I am talking about wouldn't know it or even come close to understanding the history behind it, but women have been marginalised for centuries and comments from males like most of those from uneducated fools in this thread and in the photograph comments only serve to further degrade women. All I am saying is that it is okay for you to think something... that is normal, but a little control and decency wouldn't go astray. Think what I am saying is weird? How often do you look at the comments for a pic of a male climbing with his shirt off, muscles rippling with a tight behind or whatever it is that women find attractive and see lewd and suggestive comments posted by females that objectify the climber? Note: even if you did it still would not be as offensive due to the lack of historical marginalisation, but the answer is still: Never. They would most certainly think things like: "that guy is hot" but they realise they don't have to prove anything by saying it out loud, and that's the difference. Grow up you silly little boys and respect the women of rc.com Adam edit: remove double quote.

You know, it's funny. When rc.com first announced the merger with dropzone.com, I thought I'd go over there and see what sky-diving was like, just like lots of people did. I like photography, I checked out their photos. Holy mackeral! There are TONS of pictures of naked ladies on that site. I had a few momements of wondering if this would spill over to rc.com... would we loose the regulations that keep the photos here respectful and awesome? Is somebody going to tell the people on that site, who evidently love submitting shots of naked ladies, that they can't do that any more? Probably won't matter at all in the end. I like the shots here, I think that rockclimbing, in general, is a very respectful group of people. So I guess in answer to the OP. I'd rather put up with the occasional "comment" than have to stare at "naked people and rocks" every time I loaded up the front page. At least this site isn't feeding the male porn frenzie.

In reply to: For the record, boys will be boys. Please no. Is it too much to ask, that in a forum like *this* boys will recognize that there are women climbers who work and climb and sweat and take pain right along side them, as equals? I'm not a rabid feminist, but I have had a wonderful situation where, at the gym where I started to get strong and improve skills, I *was* one of only a few women, and after a while of just busting my a** traversing until I got strong, the guys there treated me like a person, not a woman. We work and strain shoulder to shoulder, guys. Don't treat us like princesses or, how's this. Just treat us like you would any other climber.

No, dude you are an effin moron if you don't understand what is being said; there is a difference between appreciating something and acting like a silly teenager who is governed only by their own hormones and with no sense of common decency who has to tell everyone that they are ogling women every moment of the day. I am not just imagining this, it has been a consistent complaint from women for decades: They are objectified by men and degraded, and when this is considered in the historical context of female opression over the last few centuries then the informed observer will see that this tyoe of behaviour is unacceptable. Try this type of shit in the workplace and see how long you last before you are slapped with a sexual harrassment suit, dipshit. You should have stopped when it was still debatable on whether or not you were a sexist neanderthal dickhead with his head up his arse, instead of speaking up and removing all doubt. Go away you silly little boy. Adam

How many sexist posts have you read of mine on here huh? 0 that's how many. Like I said you are imagining this, and lashing out now, which is obvious by your overzealous and angry posts laced with ridiculous amounts of profane insults. This is always a sign of someone that doesn't have a cool head and is desperately trying to defend a pointless idea. Why don't you try reading all the other posts here, especially from the women, you are the only one holding to that belief, and everyone else thinks YOU are the dumbass. Why are you trying to fight this battle anyway? "Go away you silly little boy" Are you being figurative or literal? If figurative, I am a big enough person to accept that there are places I don't need to stick my nose, because it's just none of my business. If you are being literal, ...well I'll just pretend you're not that stupid.
