I must say that the issue I just received yesterday, Issue 147 was pretty darn good. Caldwell & Rodden freeing the Nose, Evans bouldering, some really good stuff. But one thing that especially caught my attention was a picture on pg. 64, of a sweet "Highball" boulder, "Area D Arete". The reason that it really caught my attention at first was that it was an excellent picture, nice rock and good flow. I will simply state that there is a "where's Waldo?" situation on that picture of the two young (and for fear of being flamed as a sexist) ladies who look like excellent climbers. This actually had me questioning myself as to whether I was seeing things or not, is it a shadow? But after confirming with numerous cohorts, we are all of the same opinion. So after you find "Waldo", what do you think? Editor's lack of attention, intentional oversight, intentional or accidental on the subjects part? One final closing remark, "WOW Very Nice, that is a tight picture."

I read this month's rock and ice and was disappointed. I read the supertopo forum all the time and am a big fan of Chris McNamara and his topo work. Anyway, he belayed for the second round of the two routes in a day and he got two sentences in the entire magazine. I was disappointed because I am sure he would have made some more comments if he was asked. Maybe he was asked, I don't know.

Crimpstrength, I can definitely understand your disappointment related to that, I know the rag falls short in many ways. Unfortunately no rag will ever capture everything that is relevant or even important/interesting, but did you at least go back to your issue and hunt for "Waldo"? And before I get flamed for this issue, it is not that big of a deal to me, I just never expected to see it in a climbing rag. I have seen a few in my day (and unfortunately only a few  LOL), but the editing issue is what amazes me. Anyway, disappointment dully noted.

In reply to: I ...am a big fan of Chris McNamara and his topo work. Anyway, he belayed for the second round of the two routes in a day and he got two sentences in the entire magazine. I agree. I can only hope that big-deal belaying gets more press; how else am I to be noticed?

If it's what I think it is the "Waldo" is part of something alive.

17. waldo l A little bitch that no one over the age of nine cares where he is. Wheres Waldo? The better question is, who cares?? 6. Waldo link send redefine 1 thumb up A term for marijuana, especially unrolled and still in the bag, used in a buying/selling situation. Can be used as a noun in context ("Can I get a 20 of Waldo?") or in the simple phrase "where's Waldo?" Buyer: "Hey brah, where's Waldo?" Seller: "I got a 1/2 oh-zee in the car." 1. waldo link send redefine 4 up, 1 down Mechanical arm, operated by remote control by mimicking the motion of a human arm. Term invented by Robert Heinlien in the novella of the same name. The arm on the space shuttle is a waldo. So WTF?

Good deal chossmonkey, I believe you found it, yes it is a part of something alive, namely the spotter and an undersized article of clothing worn under another article of clothing. Anyway, while all of the definitions for Waldo, provided by Nowinowski are intriguing, here the phrase was simply used to say "look for something that is hidden and shouldn't necessarily be visible." Hopefully these clues are enough for the less observant of you to find "Waldo".

Hey I totally agree with you, I am not above admitting my immaturity sometimes. But I still ask all of the questions I asked before, Editor sleeping on the job, out climbing or partying to hard the night before? Any way, no hang up here, heck I want to see more of it, you are right it is no big deal, we all have em so what the heck. Just surprised to see it in R&I that's all.

Well the bra that is too small and showing off the dreaded quadriboobs was sooo obvious I assumed that that couldn't be what all the fuss was about. I was wrong again. And Nowinowski, you have issues dude. You need to quit rockin' the ganj. You would be surprised at how much more stuff I've accomplished since I quit. Not because weed was holding me down due to it's effects, but because it's illegal, it forces you to either take a more invisible station in the community or get busted. I was never stupid enough to get busted, so I just kept a low profile...that sucked.
