"You cannot make another post so soon after your last; please try again in a short while." so sayeth the system. I tried sending 4 PMs in 3 minutes. There is legitamite reason/need to want to send 10 PMs in 5 minutes for example, responding to a lot of threads/users. this is really annoying and limits the functionality of the site. Its a bug, not a feature. Can it be corrected, thanks

In reply to: huh? NO. Robots don't create accounts. Spamming accounts are deleted. actually, i'm pretty sure it prevents spamming via pm/forum posts. its a built in feature for every user. you'll just have to spend 10 minutes on those 10 pm's....

How quickly people forget the Nigerian 419 spams. Bots don't create accounts, but people can automate the abuse of accounts. Without some sort of throttle it would get ridiculous. As it stands, the average PM spam hits about 200-300 accounts (I wrote a routine that deletes them, unread, from most of the recipients to avoid a compound cluster fuck, in addition to turning the account into persona non grata). I sympathize -- I have several times been bitten by this myself -- but it's currently defaulted to 30 seconds, which normally works OK. I could throttle the default down to 10 or 15 seconds for PM's, but the throttle is there for a reason... if you don't administer an email server you probably can't appreciate just how much spam there is out there (and the lengths to which people will go in order to fish for suckers). Sorry about that.

what about a routine that automatically deletes spamming accounts? That would also get rid of people that post/PM 1000+ times a month and clog the system. I guess I'm lucky, I havent got any spam PMs and I havent seen spam posts to message threads on forums.

In reply to: I havent seen spam posts to message threads on forums. Oh, they're there. They just get cleaned up ASAP. The spammers start threads but I don't think they've ever infiltrated an existing one. And by spam I don't mean spewing assholes, I mean the "Nokia cellphone $9.95!!" spammers.

In reply to: I havent got any spam PMs and I havent seen spam posts to message threads on forums. most of the ones i've seen have pretty harmless message text, but then the signature is a link to an online casino, or some crap. the message text is usually something vague enough to fit into just about any thread: "well, that's not what i expected to hear..." "do you have something to back that up?" "only someone who doesn't know what they're doing would do it that way..." etc. i consider myself pretty savvy, and cyncical, and it took be a while to notice some of the posts on another foru,m i frequent, similar in style to rc.com.
