good pic but I wish it were smaller, I had to either scroll around seeing 1/2 of it at best (or copy it into photoshop).
also I personally wouldn't put the white border then a black border, just do a straight black border. that's how we have to turn all of our projects in.

minor nitpick - more obvious with the big version, but it seems like the focus is actually about 1ft left of the climber's left foot, making the climber ever-so-slightly out of focus.
Past that, great shot. The composition works well with the climber looking down, giving us a glimpse of what he's looking at. No doubt that looking up might be better, but if that was the case, I would move the climber more towards the LR corner, in order to do what the shot does now, ie. show us where he's looking.

i was thinking the same thing. which, btw, does not make the bigger version better than the smaller one, because the out-of-focusness just comes out very obvious.
i would go for a closer, or wider shot. This framing does not show the emotion (get the face, get the face), or the environment (where does he come from, or where he is going).

Photography and pretty much all other classes (I'm in art school). I presonally prefer black foamcore for everything.

you can submit it however you want to, don't take my word as a fact. I was just saying 3 years of art school, I have yet to turn something in on a white board. At work, any artwork that's going upstairs for an exectuive review, always mounted on black board.
White does works really nice if you have a large frame, and create like a 3" border around the image (or bigger) but you usually don't wanna waste that much space unless it's going to a gallery/show.
Like I said, it's really not a big deal and I don't wanna sound like I run the place. You should do whatever you feel goes well with the image .... BUT I would strongly staying away from using a black and white border at the same time - that just looks weird.

I have to agree with the others, I would have enjoyed a wider version too...
In fact I sent an email to a certain climbing magazine asking him to critique my photos. I got a reply back and he told me that I used the 70-200 way to much and shot way to tight for climbing (examples here: http://photogblogs.com/photos/mr_mohaupt/picture892.aspx ) He then told me "live and die by the 17-35." So since then the 17-35 has lived on the camera when ever I shoot climbing photos.
