For those who have done the totem pole in queen creek, can it be done without additional pro? Was planning on doing it soon, then i saw on the routes database that you need protection for the crack at the top. Though I intend to start a trad rack soon, i don't have any gear but QD's. I've only heard of it as a 2 pitch sport route. How long is the run out at top without pro?

You could do it if you are very strong at the grade, but it would definitely be runout. The good news is that you only need a medium sized nut or two to protect it, so just bite the bullet, spend 20 bucks or so on a few medium nuts, and go for it.

Phuggnut is correct: medium sized nut (or maybe 2) is sufficient. Carry On, Jefro

Skip the nut if you wanna save cash, you wouldn't hit the ground if you fell. Like Phugganut mentioned, it's a bit runout but almost easier if you just climb thru quickly. I remember fiddling gear in to back up the poorly placed fixed nut. That was a chore cause it blocked the best nut placement. M
