Are you looking for a warm-up party before the New River Renezvous? Well howz this sound? Cinco De Mayo Bash at The Gendarme Seneca Rocks, WV Saturday May 6th. Food and beer starts ~ 5 p.m. (Yes, that's right... SEIS de Mayo.) http://www.rockclimbing.com/...p.cgi?Detailed=16246 Thank you, soze, for the photo! The General himself will be cooking pounds upon pounds of his famous wings and tacos, along with all sorts of authentic Mexican comestibles. Do you want cold beer? OK. Guacamole? Check. Wanna smack a pinata around? It can be (and already has been) arranged. How about world-class rock climbing on the infamous... scaaaaarrrry... Seneca Rocks? Duh. And fuck it, we'll also throw in a Montrail shoe demo -- it's your chance to try the memory-foam-equipped Magnet and Wasabi for yourself. And it's all FREE. All we ask is that you be loose with donations -- every ounce of which will go toward re-outfitting two rescue caches high on the hill. And this year, for the first time ever, The gendarme is hosting a Cinco de Mayo salsa contest. You think you have a good salsa recipe? Do ya? Huh? Do ya? Well, do your worst, salsa chefs: $5 to enter, winner take all!

In reply to: Bob, I'm psyched to hang with you again! :D likewise Jay! I'm stoked about the bash. Free beer, wings, climbing and good people... hmm almost to good to be true... If someone's trying to lay a trap for me, they're doing a pretty good job!

I'll try to make it out and meet some of you guys, but the next week is my doctoral candidacy exam (stupid grad school). The chili cookout in the fall was a lot of fun. By the way, where exactly are these rescue caches that i've probably stumbled over 10 times and never seen? If anyone from the DC area needs a ride out just for the day, lemme know.

Right now there are two rescue caches. The first is under the big green tarp below Triple S. The other was established below the gun sight notch on the East Face. You pass it on your approach to the Broadway Ledge. It is in a battle ship gray box that will soon have a pretty red cross on it. Both contain litters and backboards. Many thanks to all those who have contributed to the rescue fund in the past. We are now working to replace the old gear on the Gendarme porch which will service the South End and Southern Pillar (sites of the last three rescues). Looking forward to seeing everyone May 6th! http://www.climbseneca.com

We'll be there. Had a great time climbing with Bob and his posse, and we'd both like to meet Jay. As always it'll be cool to hang with Bill!! Bring good weather and as much cash as you can. It's for a good cause. Ben

So, it's climbing during the day with tacos and beer during the night, huh. Yeah, I'll definitely be there. I'm bringing the lady along as well. When do the festivities begin? Friday night?

A total of 7 people are driving down with my group. I look forward to a fun weekend. I reserved my new guide for pick up. I can't wait to get on the rock again. I hope the crowds don't impede the amount of climbing that can get done.

BOB, there shouldn't be any problem finding a place to camp. Look for kate and I at snowbird.

NWS is calling for partly cloudy Saturday, w/ 40% chance of showers after noon on Sunday. Don't you know the rules about checking the weather for climbing? You must have at least 5 sites, and you only listen to the ones that give you the best forecast... duh!!!

as long as I get up to the summit atleast once on the weekend...then I will be happy. I can drink the rest of the time. :) My forcast says the rain on Sunday is 40% chance 11 AM and later. So, you could get up some routes early if you don't have a hangover. I am meeting my group at 5 PM to leave. I got all packed up last night. I couldn't sleep last night hardly at all.
