For the past 3 days I have either not been able to get on or had huge wait times. Trying to post is near impossible. Whats the story? How much longer do we have to wait? I have a suggestion, how about stop putting man hours into a new improved route database and just get the site up and running. If this continues people are going to jump ship. The performance of this site is bullshit. Mitt

i'm almost sorry for responding just because it will keep this on the front page. while i have experienced a few more problems on the weekends (anyone else get it when you see the grey header but only "gear" and "forums" but nothing else?) the overall performance of the site is still fine, the content and community are useful/insightful, and I rarely have problems posting - maybe 1 out of 20 posts gets killed and that's usually because someone is posting at the same time (I assume). which doesn't mean I don't want the site to get better, I do but I would never conclude that "this site is going down hill." Moreover, given the fact that it's a free service I can't complain only compliment.

Yes this is a free site, but that doesn't mean the site can't have a direction in quality (for better or worse). Personally that 'Budweiser presents ... blah blah blah' advertisement just upsets me. C'mon can we keep the advertisement climbing oriented? And it comes up ALL the time. At least put it once per rotation! And, yes I also get the blank screen. What happened to the notice that let us know the site was down and that we should be climbing anyways. Ken

Halloo folks, No excuses here -- only continuing apologies. I absolutely understand your frustration. Rest assured, if all we needed to be done was to get the routes info right, we'd be fighing 24 hours a day to get it finished! But there's more. The routes are just one area/functionality of the site that is not yet ready. See here: http://www.rockclimbing.com/topic/112628 Soon we'll have a blazing fast, functional and complete RC.com. The price we're all paying for it is that we (meaning all of us!) have to continue to ride this beat up old nag a little while longer. For that, I truly am sorry. If you feel as though you have to put down the mouse and walk away from RC.com for good, I understand and wish you only best of luck, clear skies and sticky rock. I hope you'll stick around... or at least come back later. I promise it will be worth it in the long run! Jay RC.com

In reply to: Soon we'll have a blazing fast, functional and complete RC.com. In reply to: I guided in Western NC for much of the nineties and managed instructional programs for Sportrock Climbing Centers in the DC area and Inner Peaks in Charlotte. Currently, I work fulltime as a copywriter specializing in corporate ethics, but I also freelance extensively, writing magazine articles and anything else that comes along. I pull duty one evening per week to set routes at Inner Peaks and I serve as Content Editor for Rockclimbing.com How would you know?

....downhill quickly?.... quit yer whining! ....it's a usual Sunday, that's all. Sure, every now and then it shuts down on another day here and there, but for a site that's under transformation, they're doing a good job keeping it running 90% of the time. I'm looking forward to whatever changes lie ahead.... and I'm sure Jay is more than informed about whats going on and is in the "circle" of knowledge

Philbox and J_ung, probably among others but these two I know for certain, are men of quality. If they have anythign to do with the survival of rc.com, things will improve.

actually i think the site has improved a bit in the last month or so. that was the first faulty weekend in a long time. and i dont think you guys realize just how big this site is and how much work is required for moving it onto new ahrware and software. and yes, it is neccesary because i dont think the current setup will be able to run the site much longer. anyway, if youd do a little search, youd see that we have about 1 or 2 months of poor perfomance left. and since these two months beautifully coincide with (almost) peak season, i dont really care if its currently a bit sluggish.

sure, it sucks when load times are slow and whatnot, but it's not the end of the world. i sometimes get that error where only the "gear" and "forums" bars pop up. just walk away and come back later. i'm pretty sure that in most cases, there's nothing really time sensitive that you have to get at that very instant. as for the ads, all you really have to do is ignore them. just be thankful that there aren't tons of popups. and, they don't play music, like those stupid aim ads do. anyways, i think that the whole rc.com team is doing a great service to the climbing community. sure, it's buggy at times, but none of us should expect these people to drop what they're doing to cater to our needs. Just think, every moment they spend working on this site is a moment that they're not climbing, that they're not drinking that after work beer, that they're not sleeping, etc. if the wait for the transition is just that unbearable, maybe you guys should try to lend a hand in some way as opposed to nipping at their heels.

Overlord, we from Europe log in when most of the users (US) are sleeping! :) I guess it can get much much worst than what we usually experience.

Do you hate waiting for Christmas too?? I sure do. I'm like, "Santa hurry up already!" Or maybe your microwave is slow?

In reply to: Do you hate waiting for Christmas too?? I sure do. I'm like, "Santa hurry up already!" Or maybe your microwave is slow? I would hate it if everyone else's Christmas arrived faster. Or if my microwave took longer than most other ones. Or it didn't work half the time when I tried to use it. Cause that is what this site is like.

No... THIS guy is going down hill quickly. Ouch! Steve P.S. I personally feel like I've noticed a significant improvement in the sites performance in the past week or two... it used to be practically impossible to browse. It's not perfect now, but I'm hoping it gets better.
