when you love the smell of sweat and chalk together, when you anticipate a whipper, when you climb effortlessly, but most of all when you celebrate your last send sitting on your pack under the route that someone is top roping now...with a delicious joint smoking in your hands ( or beer, or both ) also, when you don't fit in any other category / sport. see also this post

Easy answer - If you have to ask, you're not. To answer with a question - What makes you feel like you're not an "official climber"? Answer that, and you might find the aswer you seek. BTW, why do you need to feel like an official climber anyway? You already love climbing. I don't climb as hard as you do, but I never had the need to define who I am. I just climb because I need to, and I want to. Therefore I might be a climber.

*Sigh* So many reasons... Using chalk as a deoderant substitute...waking up after 3 hours of sleep only to truck your tired ass down to the gym and show up anyone there...discovering climbing with friends and becoming more close knit as friends due to climbing...when your fingers bleed, and you simply love it...when you are sooo proud of doing a 5.11c even if you partially tear a ligament in your elbow in the effort oh yeah, and above all...climbing...and being the happiest man on earth while you do it.
