Hey all. Just wanted to let you know about a Maguire primrose survey that will be conducted this weekend (June 3-4) up Logan Canyon. As some of you may already know, this plant is endemic to the canyon and is listed as threatened. This status resulted in crag closures during the 1990s. So, the survey will be conducted primarily on those previously closed crags/routes such as Greenhouse Wall and China Cave left (in other words, this is a re-survey of known populations). However, Heartland was mentioned and is not presently closed. I'm still trying to get all of the information together from the botanists. Therefore, climbers need to actively participate in these re-surveys. Here's how:
Meet at 9am at the Logan Ranger District (1500 E Hwy 89). A light breakfast will be provided. From there, we will head up the canyon.
Please bring climbing gear, food, and water.
Spread the word.

More Info--Routes/areas to be surveyed:
Mini Pinnacle Z-Crack
Greenhouse wall (probably just need to do a sampling of the climbs to
view plants)
China Wall-Hobbit Hole, Standard Direct, Orcstone, Problem Child
(bouldering), Grunt Crack, Razor Blade
Crag in the Sky #5 & #6 (both are near Primula, but aren't harming the
plants)
crags west of Heartland
Heartland-Downtown, How West Was Won (again, near Primula, but aren't
harming the plants)
Card Guard Station Crag
Mullein land
Monkey Wrench Buttress-area closed above this buttress is where the
plants are
2nd Practice Wall-closed area above buttress
Rodent Ranch/Wall of Jericho, (near Primula, but aren't harming the
plants)

Hey all, we pretty much finished the surveys in the lower part of the canyon. Tomorrow (sunday) we will be meeting at the FS again at 9am. We will be surveying the upper canyon (Crag in the Sky, Heartland, Rodent Ranch...you get the picture). show up ya losers.
