I am building a trad rack right now. So far I have a set of stoppers, hexes 1-7, and cams. I have BD cams .75-4 with doubles in 1 and 2. Should I double the .75 as well? Also Im thinking of getting TCU s next, what ones do you all recommend? Thanks, Keith

  Everytime I see a thread titled 'Help me with my rack!' I think of a guy helping hold up a girl's tits! FWIW- My experience is that I place the .75 on nearly every climb. I only carry single sixe Camalots from .75 due to weight/cost. But if I was going to double any sizes it would be .75, 1, and 2. I have TCUs, they are nice, but I'll tell you I place my same-sized Aliens before I place those (and yes, I've checked, none of my Aliens are the suspect ones.) Even with the recall, I think I'd still buy Aliens. But that's because its I'm usually swinging by Rock & Snow and they have a great relationship with CCH and those guys are the type that would look a shipment over before putting it out on the shelves to seel to customers, ya know??

In reply to:   Everytime I see a thread titled 'Help me with my rack!' I think of a guy helping hold up a girl's tits! You know what they say - great minds think alike... apparently ours do too! 8^) But to answer the question - for climbing in New England, you don't need any more cams. Actually, since you're carrying hexes, you don't need any doubles in your cams. And you certainly don't need that #4 BD cam, unless it's for some very specific climb. Most of the time you should leave that stuff at home in the bin. What you do need is some small cams - as you seem to know already. I'd go down as far as the blue Alien, or whatever the equivalent TCU is. I carry a black Alien as well, but I also carry some pretty tiny wires, and I trust them equally as well (not much). GO

In reply to: Everytime I see a thread titled 'Help me with my rack!' I think of a guy helping hold up a girl's tits! We guys are burdened with many duties, not the least of which is helping "damsels in distress" fight that nasty thing called gravity. Face it -- no rack should be forced to bear the brunt of nature's forces solo. Humans developed opposed thumbs and great dexterity for many reasons, and playing piano is only one of them. Over time, many climber dudes specialize in certain types of rack assistance -- sport, trad, alpine, or big wall. Personally, I try not to get pigeon-holed with any one type of rack. IMO it's all good. So, cb22, your rack doin' OK these days?

the two largest TCUS (orange and red) overlap nicely with the .5 and .75 camalot. they have a norrower head and fit in little pods/pin cars nicely. in your shoes, i'd go with a set of ultralight TCUs -cadaver

I too, have both Aliens and TCUs . . . I bought some TCUs as an alternative to the Aliens, and now that I have an alternative, I find myself hardly ever placing them - I pretty much always reach for the Alien first. As far as BDs, I carry doubles down to .5, and as somebody else said, I almost always place those pieces. That being said, I'm sure somebody will point out that it really depends on where/what you climb.

I would like to add Double up on small stoppers from #4 to #8 You also might want to check other climbers racks ( including CB22 ) to see what they carry and what works best in your local area.

In reply to: I would like to add Double up on small stoppers from #4 to #8 That's not a bad idea at all. Add pink, red, and brown tricams, which are great in and of themselves, and also because they double both for the three cams in the range of red Alien, .5, and .75 Camalot and also for the larger nuts. GO
