Hello fellow rock climbers. Just wanted to let you know that the "Yough Gorge" is looking good. Lots of sport and trad routes have been going up. Current route count is at 60 or so.. We've been having a blast putting 'em up... Western PA has such a wonderful climbing community. It just doesn't get any better than the climbers around here. Sooooo motivated and full of energy. WOW! Anyone need beta.. contact me pesonally. I'll be happy to tell you where to go!

well after thumbing my nose at the Mill, what do i do? i go and have 2 very nice evenings climbing there... rock is/was relatively dry and you can't beat the natural air conditioning coming from the crevices. i even got a little further up over the roof on mission impossible. felt really good.

i think we're going to head down to summersville lake this weekend and camp/climb/swim. that crystal clear blue water sounds very appealing after this incredibly hot week.

:(

Bunch of people I know headed down to Seneca this past weekend. They had a great weekend they said. I was hoping to get out on Sunday.

Instead....wedding planning got in the way

guess what I am going to be doing this coming weekend? ...wedding planning.

I haven't climbed outside since we decided to move the date up to Oct. 14th of this year. I don't expect to climb until about a month after.

I hope everyone else is getting out and enjoying the summer without me. It certainly isn't happening with me.

Any ideas on how to skip out on some of this?

Have others been getting out to help with the new crag???? I have been itching to check out the new stuff.

Please keep me updated. I have to live vicariously through all of you. :)

we climbed at summersville lake friday. it was warm, but the lake kept us nice and cool. i led a 5.7 and a 5.9, both near orange oswald. we were the only ones there all day. it was like having an amusement park all to yourself. we had a blast.

climbed again in junkyard, NRG, on sunday. beautiful weather. claire worked on a 5.11a TR problem and made it to the top. she's really improving a lot lately. we were the only ones in junkyard until we left around 2:30 to go swimming at summersville lake. it was fun to swim and watch guys trying the 5.12's and 5.13's by the water...

i think we're going to head down again this weekend and do summersville lake friday afternoon, and nrg either sat or sun. there's another 5.7, a couple of 5.8's, and 5.9 called 'personal pronoun' that i'd like to try.

I am looking for a climbing partner in the Pittsburgh area who would be able to meet me at "The Factory" climbing wall three times a week for training. I am a relatively new climber (about 6months) climbing 5.8 to 5.10-. Just moved here from Reno Nevada, easy going and laid back, just want to get climbing again.

Welcome

There is a group of us that goes to the Wall every Tuesday and Thursday. It seems most people try to go out on the weekends. I am planning a wedding. So, I am not really a regular any more.

A guy named Steve is the most regular of our group that goes. He gets there around 5:15. He likes to top rope. You will probably have to take the belay test to TR. Steve is a short bald guy. What hair he has is kept shaved close and is dark brown or black. He has thin rimmed glasses. He often wears khakis and a t-shirt.

You should say hi. Explain what is up, and I am sure he will be friendly. He will often boulder until others arrive. That is a good place to hang out and talk to him.

I posted this in the "Access" section but didn't get a response.... does anyone in here know what's going on?
-------------------
We wanted to climb at Sandstonia (aka Tattoo Wall) in Bubba City this last Saturday (7/29/06) but after parking and walking a few hundred feet, we began to notice all of the shiny, yellow "NO TRESPASSING" signs stapled to every other tree. We paused, then called Waterstone sports in Fayetteville, "Ya, some cars have been getting towed there" was the response. We ended up going to the first pull-out and enjoyed the day at Beer Wall instead.

Does anyone have any information about this (new?) restriction? Is anyone working on a solution? Access would still seem possible by walking the cliffline trails, but I would imagine that parking will become an issue, especially during holiday weekends, and especially since the overflow section of the 1st pull-out also appears to be off limits.

Victor....I had seen the signs also when I was down there in June and I just went back to the Junkyard area for I didnt want to have any problems. I would call Sherri Glendenon in Glen Jean (NRG NP office) and she'll more than likely know...Or you can try Hardrock climbing and talk with Tom Wendell. I dont have these phone numbers but they are on the web..................Frank

Sorry I can't help. I will try to find the thread and give it a bump. Someone might know more. Not to dis them too much, but overall, I have not found Waterstone people particularly knowledgeable on access stuff at the New.

I am still stuck inside. IT IS SUMMER AND I CAN'T CLIMB! I was hoping to make it back outside again this coming weekend. Guess I can only cross my fingers for now.

more info can be found on the original thread (access section) but the bottom line, it appears, is that it is OK to park in the 2nd pullout, but not too close to the road or you'll get towed.

Below is the Seneca Accident thread that I heard Jim, Brian and Matt were involved in.

No posts from them yet, but I expect they will see it now and hopefully go respond.

Just to clarify: Jim, Brian, and I were on the scene of the accident. None of us was hurt.

I will probably reply in that thread later today.

That is good. I hope to make it back out in 2 weeks. Our thread has slowed down. I saw some pictures of Victor's trip to Rumney, but I didn't hear any detailed stories. Maybe he will share those stories here?? Of course, it might have been a ho-hum trip too :)

thanks for prompting, dan! (ho-hum my butt! :D )

RUMNEY WAS GREAT!

claire and nina both led their first routes-- a 5.2 called "a week with pete" and then they jumped on a soft but vertical 5.7-- i was very proud of them! the rock was great, too. unlike anything i've climbed on to date. i'm definitely looking forward to going back.

if anyone wants to see pictures, they're welcome to visit:

ya, the thread has been quiet lately... i hope that means that folks are out there touching rock!

we're not sure if we're gonna head back down to the New this weekend or wait until Labor day, but we'll definitely be climbing somewhere. claire had a lot of fun at cooper's (with dan and friends) a few weeks ago, so we're thinking of maybe heading down there again. we're always open to ideas if anyone wants to join.

summersville lake has limited days, too, in terms of swimming.... they'll be draining it in a month or so....

too many choices, so little muscle repair time!

I haven't been to Cole's Cove. I saw your pictures on your website. It looked pretty cool.

This weekend, I am having the bachelor's party. So, still no climbing....but this time I can deal with it. :)

I hope you have fun no matter the place you end up.

As a side note I heard that Excursion moved their classes to a new place. I only heard it said. I think it was Knoll's Knob?? In any case, that is another place that I will have to check out some day. There are just a ton of places in that area.

it was a fun time at the Mill yesterday... good to see ya, bill!

although claire and i tried our hardest, yesterday's ascent of Mission Impossible belonged solely to Nina!

we're heading out today to Breakneck... claire and nina want to do some easy sport routes.
