In reply to: Canada Post will recognize this hardy sport, and the centennial of the country's premier climbing club, with a domestic-rate postage stamp that will be available for sale in post offices across the country on July 19. Cool, I got to get me one and it wan't cost me much eh.

A first day cover is an enverlope or postcard with the full set of stamps or the single stamp attached and post marked with the first day of release. The enverlope is usually has some related decoration on it. Here and here are a couple of random examples.

Thanks, I went to the post office this morning, and being a small outlet they only had (1) first day cover, and (4) packages of stamps. So I cleaned them out :D The first day cover was exactly what you said, an envelope with related art and information, a single stamp, marked as if mailed from Canmore-with the date of release. It's actually all pretty kewl looking, even the little pamphlet thingy that the stamps come in.

Does anyone else think the mountains in the background with the ocean in from look like something taken on the west coast.... where is the climber climbing?
