And what's wrong with being nice to someone? I can totally relate: 5.10 felt like a "special" number to me, too.

5.10 felt special to me as well, only happened last weekend, but, it was outdoors on the sharp end. I'm a noob gumby or whatever, but, the OP need not spray on his gym accomplishments. Seriously.

Perhaps I'm embarrassingly naive... but i haven't the slightest idea what a "Noob" or "Gumby" are. So I'll just ignore those comments.... but anyone demeaning the first 5.10 climb needs to just pull it out, throw it on the table, and say "See? I told you it was big. Look how big it is! My mother says it's big...." Even though I'm sure it's not. But props to your mother for trying to be nice. I'm not trying to make enemies here... I'm just saying: (1) This is a beginner's forum- so beginners are going to post here. (2) Nobody should ever be condescending about someone else's personal accomplishments: at the gym, outside, on Mt freaking Everest, I don't care. (3) Get over yourself That said, nice job on the climb, dude. I was thrilled when i did my first 5.10 at EARTH TREKS IN COLUMBIA. THAT'S RIGHT, INSIDE. IN....SIDE. I plan on going outside asap, and I agree that everyone should, because that's what rock climbing is about. But that doesn't mean that the gym isn't fun, challenging, or even respectable. See you at Earth Treks!

In reply to: Haha- that's what I get for not paying attention. I hope you pay better attention when you climb. But, had this been in beginner's forum I'd not've cared because I am beginner too and all beginners should be taught quickly to not spray about their gym accomplishments. Go climb.

For a Christian-run organization*, they're sure doing a number on the nation's landfills. * When I first read their Three Guiding Principles, it really caught me by surprise. Maybe they're GOP/Bush-supporter/Christians. (pronounced: "F___ the environment, we want to MAKE MONEY")

(pronounced: "F___ the environment, we want to MAKE MONEY") I'm pretty sure they recycle the catalogs and use the fibers to make some of the awful high waisted capris for 60 year grandmas that want to walk on the board walk in Yellowstone and through bread at the birds (unfortunately, if their adult diapers fail then the pants will disintegrate). Don't ask me how they gather the used catalogs, then I'd have to tell you about homing beacons, aliens, and all sorts of other weird Christian stuff. Oops, I've typed too much.

In reply to: I did it!! I have been climbing for 3 and 1/2 months and I finally climbed my first 5.10. It is great, I can only climb once a week and every week I can see my improvements. I still can't boulder anything past a V3, but I don't boulder much. Good. I'm glad you've reached a higher plateau. Now keep pushing yourself and don't let the other elitist assholes like erin and crissy ruin your day. Good job, man.

I used to be a tues/thurs climber but now i'm more of a Mon/Wed kinda gal...

In reply to: I'm happy for you in the anticipatory way you can be happy for an older brother when he first has sex- him doing it assures you that you can do it, on your own terms. This is a little gem! What makes you think you've got what your brother has? :)
