I've been fascinated by rock climbing since the one and only time I did it, at an indoor place quite aways from my home. Unfortunatly I don't know of anywhere else to climb, there are no mountains or rocks around... no empty abandoned houses, and i'm just dying to go climb some rocks. Anyone have any suggestions?

I've noticed that the more I climb, the more I see available to climb. Just change your perspective a little. Say, climb up on your table- or fence. Mountains often have something hiding on them. . .

Build a little wall in your garage, just a few 2x4s and some plywood. Get yourself a few screw-on holds, and have at it :) If you don't have a garage, bolt some holds onto the side of your house.

Holy Cow... table climbing... who'd of thunk. "tabling" as it was referred to. One of the lasting innovations of the man, Brennan Larson. But yeah, it is actually quite fun. And people did this in Utah, where there are rocks to be climbed!!!

That's not climbing, that's freeruning, also called "Parkour" It's pretty big in Europe, it's based on urban escape tactics. Cool? yes. Rock Climbing? No.

After seeing a few Parkour videos, (very likely the same you saw) I got hooked on it. I've been doing it for about a year now in various places, around campus, etc. While it is not rock climbing and isn't even a substitute for climbing, I've found that it has helped my climbing. Parkour helps to work on balance, jumps, precision, plus is a good full body exercise. Parkour is fun but keep in mind it is dangerous if you decide to do some in between when you get the chance to rock climb.

order a finger board and set up a solid workout. in a few years when you start driving you can make it out to a crag and you will be nice and beefy. stick to climbing tables for technique.

Oh, I didn't even know that they had a name for that, lol. I thought he was just doing it becuase it looked really sweet. I'm definately going to try that sometime, with permission of course, lol. Definately dangerous too, those guys that jump buildings and stuff are just crazy, jeese. It looks like a ton of fun too. Something that might be cool, find a dead tree and drill some grips into it, all the way up. You could climb the tree using those... Alright, thanks, I'll try it out guys.

Oh, i've got plenty of other sports, soccer, basketball, baseball, tennis, golf... It's just that rock climbing is great because you get to go out in the woods and hike and stuff... those other psorts don't have that. Check out the link in my second post, it's got this free running things, it's sweet.

Bleachering! Ok, I don't think that's a sport yet, but when I lived far from a gym I would just do laps under the bleachers. Make sure you're not climbing above crossbeams and it's a pretty good workout building endurance and core strength. You can vary the hand positions and use the side supports for a little variety, and even hang some slings and practice lead clipping. The local high school has some big bleachers that I could probably had done more with, but I remember getting chased off by the janitor when I was a kid so I just went to the public park. Check with your gym teacher; maybe they're an ex-climber who had to move down there for their spouse and is longing to put up a boulding wall. Or maybe one of the local civic groups would be willing to help sponser a wall at the park. Ask around, you never know.

I enjoy bouldering around on the underside of playground structures at parks and places. A lot of the slides have neat holds up the bottom side, and you can find some pretty gnarly problems if you look at the right places. There's a lot of neat I-beams, and also just straight tiny pinchy stuff on the bottomsides of such things.
